We will have limits on everything we can do forever if our compliant populace have their way, comatose on the couch with a leg rest out watching Strictly Pop X Celebrity to save Christmas for the weans. It's legitimately terrifying how quickly a populace can be conditioned into buying into this as 'the new normal'. Someone such as myself, always very left leaning, never voted any party other than SNP, simply does not buy into this ethos of blindly nodding and going 'oh well, them's the rules'. I've always said on here, restrictions are begrudgingly fine as long as they are a) strictly temporary and b) there is an end game. Now the vaccine is apparently the end game but people are seemingly happy enough for us to kick the can down the road indefinitely and going 'it will take more time' at a point where really hard questions should be getting asked. Why was 1m vaccines lauded by the end of January but thrown out and quickly reneged on? What is the time scale now? If there are delays, why are there delays and what is being down to resolve? I always have believed that a party's harshest critics should not be people who vote for opposing parties but be those people who have given their support for and entrusted their vote to a party. There is not a lot I've seen from the SGs response to this in the past several days and weeks that has made me particularly confident of where I'd place my vote in future or, more likely, if I'd even place one at all.

Even when it should be obvious to them that they are ambitious to the point of being undeliverable.

Michael W
That 1m by the end of January was absolute horseshit from Freeman and was never on. Hardly a surprise that the SG very quickly made sure no mention was ever made of it again. I'm surprised it was allowed to be said in the first place, as it was something right out the Boris Johnson book of overpromising. Sending Leitch out on Boxing Day to try and sneak out a write off of 2021 is ridiculous too - who on earth signs this stuff off?

To take Leitch as an example - and as someone I generally think has came across well in his role as a communicator the last 9 months - he is at the end of the day just a civil servant, an advisor. While the decisions are informed by science etc they are still taken by politicians and political concerns are inherent to them - that's of course absolutely as it should be in a democracy. What happens if the SNP lose in May and another party with a slightly different Covid policy forms th government? Does he just turn on a dime and start saying different things on the telly? You've got to imagine things are at a point where he is so close to the government at this stage he can't survive any major change in political direction. I suppose it's all academic as the FM and the SNP aren't going anywhere, and you could say a crisis like this is always going to blur these lines, but it's an interesting one, to me at least. You think Leitch has came across well? Fcking hell the man is an absolute mark for himself. A self serving sanctimonious p***k who clearly sees himself as some sort of “celeb” in all of this. Him and Devi will probably be in some reality trash tv in a few months billed as the “Covid saviours” -

Pfizer was promising 10 million doses to the UK by the end of December till recently, presumably she was going on that. If they had actually managed that it would be doable. 45 days for 100 centres to dole out 222 injections per day in Scotland. Todd_is_God
Welshy's unwavering determination to shout down any criticism of the SG is impressive tbh. For Freeman's claim to be possible, we'd need to have been vaccinating 125,000 people per week over an 8 week period. That's around 6.5 times as many per week than we have been doing so far, and doesn't factor in the need to also administer the second dose. Now that we've seen how it's gone it was a frankly ludicrous claim, that deserves to be called such. I will assume, however, that Freeman must have been aware of the numbers that getting to 1m would entail, and therefore the SG must be confident that they have the capacity to administer 125,000 per week if the supplies (most likely the oxford one) are there. This, based on the oxford vaccine being available at the start of January, would allow around 1.5m to be done by the end of March.
