Elixir
Quote Posted at 19:0319:03 Analysis: Hints at what the 'new normal' could entail Jessica Parker BBC political correspondent PA MediaCopyright: PA Media Thinking about what the future might look can feel like a fairly futile exercise sometimes, with so much up in the air. But Boris Johnson did just offer up at least one interesting glimpse. He suggested there could well be rapid testing for people heading off to venues like nightclubs and theatres; a way of keeping a lid on infection rates in those parts of the economy that are the “toughest nuts to crack”. That may be some way off yet and there’ll be plenty of questions as to exactly how that would work. But it does shine a little light on what life might look like in the "new normal". Get this absurdity in the bin right now. Aside from the pointless-ness of lateral flow testing, it's just unworkable nonsense. Folk waiting half cut for 20 minutes and then if you're asymptomatic and positive that's you humped? It's still health checks to do something recreational. Why not test for HIV or other STI's somewhere like a club it we're going down that route, or influenza in cinemas and theatres? Shit like this is anything but 'normal'. Bin.

It is though. What she means by a "4 nation approach" is everyone doing what she wants to do.

What has that got to do with the point I made? You can't bemoan the lack of a 4 nation approach whilst at the same time being the one deviating.
Thereisalight..
One thing I keep seeing being mentioned is the need for testing for months/years yet. Is their any reason why once the elderly and vulnerable have been vaccinated why we still need to test people? The various guises of Test and Protect are costing an absolute fortune to run each day. Why should money be wasted on this for much longer? Will folk like my Aunt who is 70 and a hypochondriac be allowed to get a test done even when shes been fully vaccinated? (She got her first dose yesterday).

And yet more open ended language. What does "foreseeable" even mean. It could mean anything from a couple months to several years. Any politician worth their salt would tell to f**k off and come back with something more specific.
D.A.F.C
With testing maybe the best and easiest way would be a Bluetooth or wifi device that tests you and will allow entry to events once your phone accepts the test. A bit big brother but it would allow for easy access to football or gigs, can’t be too difficult to make something like this surely? If youre tested at work or in another place like a GP surgery or dentists then that counts. Yes it would cost a bit but how much would another lockdown cost or 200,000 needing ICU over the next couple of years? Possibly switch testing off and on with the tier system. This to me is a properly handled crisis, not just let’s open stuff up and hope that a transmissible virus will somehow stop spreading when we only have 30% vaccinated. It would also mean the end of masks and SD. In the event of a breakout then just close down a small area and switch on smartphone only access with negative test. Nah let’s just let it rip, no idea who or what or where it is. Punish everyone.

Aside from the fact that only 1 in 1,000 cases are imported at the border, and that it's the 'UK variant' which is going to 'sweep the world', the exact same can be said of the Scottish Government's scramble for relevance when people simply fly to Newcastle or Manchester before their onward journey to Scotland. Still, there will be coin put in some people's pockets.

I don’t see a problem. We were told the variants aren’t of concern and the high risk have now been vaccinated. Covid has been reduced to a few people with the sniffles.

You could argue every single case outside of China is "imported at the border". -
