Worryingly that suggests that employers in England are heeding Boris' plea to save Pret and get folk back into the office.

I would hope there is a much more pragmatic way taken up here and employers don't get wide.

I think the vast majority of employers will take a flexible approach and discuss with employees.

Tbh I think people do want much more flexibility, but I’m not sure most want to WFH 5 days a week every week (I certainly don’t).

Agree this virus will reach everyone eventually.

I'm quite sure the numbers of those that have been infected by all the variants since early last year is a lot more than official numbers as many especially last year during the first wave didn't realise they had it and passed it on to others who also had either mild or no symptoms at all. It might even be as much as around 90% of the population of the UK already have the antibodies in their system from either vaccination or from infection.

The biggest issue we face now is in the mind.

ONS surveys do suggest ~90% of the UK population have at least some antibodies. Undoubtedly the number of infected both here and globally is a massive underestimate. At the start of October last year the WHO estimated ~10% had contracted it. That's pre Alpha and Delta, and the winter/spring waves in the northern hemisphere.

A fair few people happy working from home must get a bit worried about if promotion spots or job cuts are incoming and others are back in the workplace. A lot easier to sack somebody online, and to put a word in the right ear in the office.

I’ve got a customer in Surrey wanting us to bring the whole team down from Edinburgh for a workshop.  Absolutely no reason we all need to sit in a room together.

She can bolt.  Up here it’s still WFH where possible and this clown customer can’t get her head round the fact there are no expenses factored into this contract as it was signed at a time when none were envisaged.  Are we hell shipping a dozen people down south at our cost for a vanity meeting that serves no purpose other than an introduction thing that has been done over Teams anyway.

Tell her how much extra it'll be and I imagine she'll STFU.

Not in the slightest.  Don’t care about promotion and none of the exec are based in the office I’m based in anyway so me going into Edinburgh on a daily basis would make zero difference in either of those scenarios.

Not everyone will be as fortunate as you though.

See a lot of nightclubs in England are opening up at midnight.

Can almost guarantee some of those places haven’t been cleaned since they got closed.

I was just in the petrol station at about 10 past midnight here in Englandshire.

For reasons unknown it was mobbed and not a mask in sight.  Folk are done with wearing them and Boris has fucked any chance of them being used with his usual indecisive pish.

Has the guidance been published on when he wants folk to wear them?

The Lovejoy/blue heart/political kiddy-on SAGE tears will be immense. neville.png

It’s actually surreal watching that. No distancing or masks, no limits on numbers so absolutely packed. People getting fired into each other like it’s February 2020.

You simply just love to see it. The salty tears of the Lovejoys watching it are just an added bonus.
