Coronavirus (COVID-19)

I don't really see the point of shutting at 10. People will just start drinking earlier. When people leave public transport will still be up and running so people will get on a bus and potentially spread Covid to twenty people rather than getting in a taxi with one other person. It seems an exercise in appearing to be doing something. Also every off licence will still be open so people will be more likely to get some cans and go to each others' houses.

ETA: No idea what happened here. None at all.

It's quite embarrassing the way the government and Scottish government are trying to say schools aren't spreading the disease. I get that they may be a necessary evil and one of the few vital places that need to stay open - but let's not just blame others and try and say, 'Aw but kids don't transmit it much, so it's fine and obviously it's because you're all having house parties'.

Its the dishonesty about it that really annoys me.

With a Masters in Public Health from Harvard. Your "dentist to trade comment" marks you as a member of an other, more elite (in their own minds) branch of medicine. Which one is it?

I reckon Thereisalight is that one Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow that voted again Leitch becoming a Fellow.  Holds a grudge, probably related to some argument over the benefits of oral surgery some years back.

Gove confirms now English pubs and restaurants close at 10 from Thursday, People who can WFH should do so, everyone who can get out the office and WFH should (U) and all plans for any return of spectators to sport including trials are ceased with no indication when that may return now.

That seems very half arsed, surely that isn't going to make a blind bit of difference especially given the numbers who had basically ignored the previous return to the office rallying cries. Must be more in the Boris announcement.

It seems more and more that people are picking up on this (non parents and non-selfish, non- "get back to the skale" at any cost parents).

It's becoming quite insulting to see the government continually ignore the unwelcome truth that cases of Covid have surged since the schools reopened.

Peddling the idea that children must be crammed into classrooms in the middle of a pandemic is going to cause a lot more damage to this country's health and economy than it should have, and could have easily been avoided.

We all know blended learning (or complete home learning) is inevitable in the next 6 weeks so why cause more damage in delaying this for any longer? The classroom learning is sacrosanct brigade will have forgotten about it by the next election anyway.

That’s the highland league binned for the season then.

Yep. I think every league, League One down will need to go into abeyance.

They could maybe (hopefully) put a mini season together starting in March.

The Highland League made the right call in saying they'd only start with fans. I'd expect other leagues to follow suit

Yip big turnaround. Seems the table service only conditions attached to pub opening now in England is a big issue too whereas up here that has been pretty commonplace. All eyes on NS now to see if her "broad 4 nation approach" stands firm as bar pubs closing early there was very little change in the Gove "preview" to the situation up here already.
