There was a study done by an NHS trust in England which used ffp3 masks for its staff and covid absence was significantly reduced. Where as others which stuck with the surgical masks saw absence generally rise. Surely for masks to have any meaningful impact it either has to be ffp3 or its just a token gesture to appease the Lovejoys? I mean Magrit wearing a mask over her chin and mouth and not covering her nose or Senga who just uses a perspex screen arent really doing anything to help them not get covid? Its just theatre to make people feel nice isnt it?

Only occasionally pop into this thread for a look, but don't post so unsure if this point has been covered.

Due my 2nd dose at Ravenscraig tomorrow, and gladly going along for it. Hoping that being fully vaccinated will assist in getting away for a holiday in September, if the easing of restrictions etc continues to go to plan.

My worry, however, is another moving of the goalposts. I don't follow the in's and out's too much, but I'm fairly sure I seen that hitting certain numbers of vaccinations is part of the framework. To that end, my brother went for his 2nd jab yesterday and said the Ravenscraig centre was like a ghost town, so much so that he honestly thought something was wrong and the place had been closed. At the 1st, the place was going like a fairground with thousands processed daily and a constant queue morning til night.

The nurse/vaccinator he had told him that the majority of people lettered to attend just now are in the 30's age group and the uptake has been particularly poor, with circa 20,000 no shows in the past week. How accurate this is, I don't know and may well be exaggerated, but could  a large drop off in expected numbers like this have an impact on the progression out of this shitshow ? Also, with the short shelf life of the vaccine, surely this must be resulting in massive cost/waste ?

But I am not required to wash my hands to enter a hospital and never have been.

I'm not disagreeing about hand washing being a good thing in general though.

As for the NHS, would thay have the legal power to enforce mask wearing as a condition of entry once the SG revoke that law?

I'd be very surprised if they were to be honest.

I know, but one would like to hope you still would.

I can’t imagine it being a full on thing where people are forced into it, but I would expect them to be asking folk and stuff. I’ve been pretty much ignoring these “aHm eXeMpT” folk this whole time and will continue to do.

Also as someone who has a science background you can’t honestly argue that masks don’t work to reduce respiratory and other infections. There are literally hundreds of scientific papers to the contrary. The issue is and has always been compliance and wearing them properly.

I wonder if places like Iceland and Denmark that have either lifted all restrictions or have set their intentions to, because the vaccines fucking work ridiculously well, have as many bed wetting imbeciles as we have in Scotland/the UK, or if they are generally just much more sensible societies.

Some people can be genuinely exempt, not entirely down to “ahm exempt.”

What ‘sort’ of people?

Im intrigued.

Just people I disagree with on every other issue, especially Brexiters. Though I only became a lockdown sceptic once second doses were offered to all at risk groups.

Oh there certainly can be. But there is almost no physiological reason that folk can’t wear facemasks. There can however be mental health issues that preclude people wearing them.

Less than half of the downloads of the Scottish test and trace app still active.

Less than half of Covid app downloads are active https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-57715950

public opinion seems to be turning.

The English government have clearly just ditched the QR code scanning because no one is doing it.

Any time i'm asked i just point my phone at it for two seconds, there is no way to tell if you actually use the app or not.

Okay, thanks.

The reason I’m right of centre is that people of the left tend to be far more authoritarian and want to control the lives of the public to a much greater extent.

I much prefer a belief in the individual rather than state control.

You must be appalled then that your fellow Tories  most centralising, power grabbing, authoritarian government in UK history.

Zapped it Feb/Mar time I think.  The only impact isolating would have on me currently is not being able to walk the dogs but f**k that.  I live in the countryside with fields literally across the road so there’s no way they’re being confined to the garden for 10 days if I can help it.
