The fat guy with the ponytail I'm 99% certain is the journalist who posed as an Aberdeen Soccer Casual in the 80s and was on the Danny Dyer program about hooligans. Real Football Factories - Scotland.

Edit - Same accent, same slight lisp.  it has to be him. He wasn't the journalist guy but that's him.image.thumb.png.8dbba1688ef201b89d5bcdc37b35731b.png

That's a hot, niche reference. I like it.

Just worth reiterating that this account is tweeting absolute nonsense next time someone cites it as authoritative on anything.

I ordered test kits yesterday and they're being delivered this morning.

Good god. Some of these people are unbelievable.

There’s a woman saying it’s “leading to a socialistic utopia”.  Surely that would be a good thing?

So just to confirm Detrournement is a nut job who should be banned from being near an electronic item?

He's essentially just Alex Jones but instead of anger and rage he has smugness and condescension. I have no idea why people still humour him.

This is definitely one of the strangest phenomena of the last few years. Large numbers of fairly ordinary people who have been convinced that there are large scale Marxist/Socialist/Communist plots in action but that they are somehow being orchestrated by arch Tories like Johnson, Javid, Sunak, Patel and Raab in league with billionaires and massive corporations.

It's the UK version of QAnon and it didn't happen organically.

The government strategy all the way through this has been to have two simultaneous narratives going. They do it to appear that that they are being forced by villainous SAGE and Remainer types to make decision about locking down that will be  unpopular with their voters.

The other technique they are clearly using is to get the public used to the idea of unpopular policies for a period before they become official by coordinated conflicting leaks so there is less backlash.

Remember you were saying last night that we don't know if the vaccines are working yet? Forgive us if we don't take a single thing you say seriously.

Vaccines don't prevent infection or transmission so cases, hospitalisations and deaths will inevitably increase.

VT just dotted this and I noticed 4 other angry men also dotted it.

However either Whitty or Vallance said exactly the same thing at the press conference a few hours later!

It's still winter versus summer.

My word. We could equally make a similar comparison from spring 2020. Also, is it winter in places like Russia and Tunisia right now? You never did get me those sources about how the pandemic started later there.

Season only has consequences on outcome rather than transmission?

All we are interested in now is hospitalisations and deaths. However if you believe that there will be no restrictions this winter and that Delta is far more transmittable then infections are going to be through the roof this winter compared to 12 months previously.

The question is how will that feed into deaths/hospitalisations?

We don't have like for like data about transmission in summer because of Delta Vs Alpha but also because testing is ten times greater this summer than last.

If only an entire branch of science existed purely for the purposes of making predictions and estimations from data whilst accounting for the uncertainties associated with that data.

That "entire branch of science" and its shan models have made a rip-roaring c**t of predicting and estimating every wave of infections so far, so I'm not sure where you're going with this.
