A couple of guys from a big city are passing through some small town in the deep south.

They'll stop off at a roadside bar, where the locals are playing pool. The women will show interest but the men will be pissed off and start a fight.

The ladies always know a couple of big city shaggers when they see them.

When someone from Inverness posts this you wonder whether the subtext is a smug pride in his exploits the last time he was in Dingwall or Tain or a simmering resentment of dashing Southern tourists visiting Inverness

Elevators

If the charcter needs one asap (either being chased or chasing someone) the lift is as far away as possible in the building and moves like its powered with an energizer battery

But if theres no rush, charcter just talking away, one press of the lift button (usually in a big office building or a big housing building) then bing the lift is miraculously at their floor

Lifts are never one or two floors away

Magical autistic people.

Every single autistic person I've seen on screen is a savant of some sort while being utterly useless at relating to people. I know many autistic people who aren't very smart at all and some who are actually ok at relating to people.

None in film or TV though. A'body on the spectrum in that world is an Einsteinian man-child.

Was this a thing before Rain Man? I remember that's when it exploded as a trope, but I'm too young to remember before that.

My maw worked with autistic kids and was absolutely seething about that film for years  :P

Probs been mentioned but this does my tits in

Charcter is tied up, held hostage etc, hostage taker lets guard down, charcter gets the upper hand, attacks them, knocks them to the floor, sometimes partially knocking them out

What does said charcter do, go in, finish the job and dont let the b*****d get up again (hell even break a leg or two if they dont want to kill them)

Nope they just run away allowing hostage taker back up, and sometimes they even fucking run away instead of taking the weapon they leave it behind

Yeah, occasionally you'll see a film where the character doesn't quite understand the gravity of the situation yet and just thinks getting away is the answer.

However, if someone's been kidnapped, assaulted, seen their captor murder other people, then finally gets the upper hand on them and doesn't use the opportunity to thoroughly incapacitate them (at least), that's the point where I stop rooting for them to escape and want to see them punished for their stupidity.

24 thread for this pish

I only posted it because i seen it in an episode of swat

Female swat officer kidnapped by mexican police, guy starts digging her grave, she's pleading for her life, he's telling her she needs to be silenced etc etc

She gets an upper hand, knocks him to the ground, knocks gun away from bad guy, then proceeds to leave gun and said psychotic mexican police guy instead of taking the gun and holding him hostage or anything

Usually its fucking ridiculous, but when a swat officer did it i think i missed the next 5 minutes just laughing about it and fucking around online instead

24 is better.

I am pretty sure that Jack Bauer had a heart attack after being exposed to a toxin, and a couple of hours later was fist fighting a terrorist.

This trope basically sums up the entire horror genre, where a half-finished script doesn't account for the protagonist escaping without the film being over.

See also films that have a character investigate something suspicious when they're already aware that bad shit be going down, rather than escaping or at least calling for help. Just appallingly lazy writing.

Swat is an atrociously written TV program.
