I don’t think that he was actually in the Truss Government as a Minister. Not that it matters given that it only lasted about 20 minutes.

welshbairn
I think Sunak's played a blinder. He knows full well he has zero chance of winning the next election, he's got rid of the most annoying people he has to work with, has put the loony right back in their box, can try and keep the government steady for the next year without total idiots fucking things up and leave with a reasonable reputation when he loses the election and moves to California to start a hedge fund using his father in law's money.

Salt n Vinegar
Some Tory voices seem to be suggesting that the UK should just leave all these pesky treaties and agreements to just let the UK do whatever it wants. As I understand it, these rules not only apply to immigration, they also protect citizens (subjects?) from maltreatment by their own government. Perhaps we could get a list of all these protections so that when they are all repealed/ repudiated, we can know what a UK government will be allowed to do? I'm particularly looking forward to a future government being able to deport (or maybe even torture?) political opponents. Braverman seems keen on Rwanda. Just a thought. Pack yer bags, Suella, pick a windae, yer leavin'.

Alert Mongoose
Does this mean that if someone were to plunge a dirk into this guy's neck, they wouldn't be liable for legal sanction?

I can’t see it capturing the popular/ignorant imagination like the EU did but a quarter of a century ago I couldn’t envisage mass participation giving-a-shit about the EU, so who knows. Maybe thirty years as a fringe Tory and Tory press obsession might do the job on that too. The fact that being outside the ECHR wouldn’t have affected today’s decision is irrelevant. They will absolutely degrade our rights under the guise of ‘stopping the boats’ and ‘taking are country back’ type shite. All those gammony fuckers who voted brexit, ANYONE WHO VOTED FOR BREXIT IS A FUD will applaud it like a fucking seal, despite it opening the door for them to make you work longer for less, with less rights, less holidays. Honestly the electorate in this country are thick.

Yup. The last US government shutdown produced an absolute belter from an absolute belter: A few miles away, another prison employee, Crystal Minton, accompanied her fiancé to a friend's house to help clear the remnants of a metal roof mangled by the hurricane. Ms. Minton, a 38-year-old secretary, said she had obtained permission from the warden to put off her Mississippi duty until early February because she is a single mother caring for disabled parents. Her fiancé plans to take vacation days to look after Ms. Minton's 7-year-old twins once she has to go to work. The shutdown on top of the hurricane has caused Ms. Minton to rethink a lot of things."I voted for him, and he's the one who's doing this," she said of Mr. Trump. "I thought he was going to do good things. He's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting."

You see headlines of people complaining about long lines at passport control with " this isn't the brexit we voted for" or "eu punishing brits for leaving" well, I'm sorry but yes it was the brexit you voted for, you demanded that freedom of movement was ended and it was, the fact that you didn't think it would be your freedom of movement affect too, is on you i'm afraid
