I get the reasons above why more modern players aren't maybe in the spirit of the thread, but if he qualifies I'd have him in there. Matthuas was in the Moenchengladbach team who took an absolute hiding off United 5-0 in 1981
craigkillie
Should have hung back an hour smartarse. Point stands we celebrated a 0-0 against an England team that has won f**k all and I was raging drawing 0-0 against an Italian team that only lost the world cup on pens. Our standards have dropped. Does anyone seriously think they haven't.One of those results was away from home and at a major finals, the other was at home and part of a qualifying campaign where we finished 4th despite being 2nd seeds.I know which set of standards I'd rather have.

Fairly reasonable conclusion and I don't see why your going off on one. Edited July 13, 2021 by thisal

free beer
I'd add "Der Bomber" Gerd Muller to the list. He scored for West Germany against Scotland at Hampden Park on April 16th, 1969, in a 1-1 draw. This was one of 68 goals he notched in 62 appearances for his country. Another was the winner that knocked England out of the 1970 World Cup. Not sure if he played in Scotland earlier than this!
TxRover
Oliver Kahn played vs Raith at Easter Road in 1995, might meet your standards as a great player
Northboy
Wasn't Luis Figo in the Portugal team at the U15 World Cup in 1989? Probably if you check the squads there would have been a few more 'names' present although probably not ranked as great players.

Luis Figo came on as a sub in the World Cup Qualifier at Ibrox in 1992.
