There are multiple threads on here full of people displaying that they clearly know their shit on a wide variety of topics. Forum posting is the purest form of online engagement as literally anyone who destroyed their brain on Something Awful alone would know. ETA: as if Lenin and Marx wouldn't have been forum posters as well most of their bibliography is them beefing with other writers in the exact style of niche confusing forum posting you see on here every day. All I can say is none of the really intelligent people I know in real life use social media much, if at all. You don't need to be all that intelligent to have areas of expertise. Most of us have at least one subject in which we're knowledgeable. I know a few things about a few things, but I know some people operating on a completely different level from me. 33 minutes ago, Dee Man said: You've upped it from smart to "really smart" there. True, I was talking about another league. Quote I think judging people on their levels of intelligence based on whether they use twitter over P&B is probably a fairly inaccurate gauge. That's not even close to what I said. You've got it completely back to front.

Hedgecutter
One of the great things about Scotland is the lack of snobbery about football at a 'normal middle class' level. Above that (folk that wear tweeds types) you're almost certainly into egg-chaser territory, but north of the border we don't really suffer from the same level of divide you tend to see Down South. I'd imagine that PieAndMash.com or whatever they have down there would attract a somewhat more exclusive clientele.

Just in case he is on P&B can I say he’s funnier than Tam Cowan, mind you so is Covid.
Bonksy+HisChristianParade
Quite curious to find out what qualifies somebody to be ‘genuinely smart’ in the bizarre world of GordonS.

Mars is 5 years older than Jupiter who in 2 years time will be twice as old as Saturn. How old is Mars? HTH Experience teaches that if Saturn is a typical cat and I try and take a nice photo of her all I will get is a picture of Saturn's ring
Raidernation
No offence to anyone, and I've come across a few obvious bright sparks here, especially in the chess league, but anyone genuinely smart probably wouldn't be a regular on P&B.I passed several tests I’ll have you know!Blood, urine, breathalyzer………

Gordon EF
Generally, I feel like the average intelligence on P&B seems a lot higher than the population at large. There are a few idiots floating about but it feels like they're outnumbered pretty heavily by generally intelligent folk who know what they're talking about.

No wonder so many threads turn into a condescending sh*tshow when 8/10 posters perceive themselves to be in the forum's elite. Oh, I put myself easily on the right hand side of the curve. Not because of in-depth knowledge on any subject, although there are a couple of areas where, through my work, I am definitely more knowledgeable than average. No, I honestly believe that those of us who have spent more time on this here rock in space have accumulated kniowledge which can be applied to new events which crop up. Not saying that the likes of me, GD and JacksGranda are the repository of all wisdom, but simply by being alive we have experienced more than someone half our age. More than half, because accumulation of knowledge tends to start when education ends. One thing you do find on here, and in life, is that more and more people will take entrenched views upon a subject, and refuse to alter their views regardless of evidence. I like to think I don't fall into that category*, but some may disagree. Politics is one area where P&B posters (perhaps unsurprisingly) take a "my team, good or bad" stance, and it cheapens any debate. From SNPBaaaad to Labour's incompetence, to the LibDems continuing irrelevance, positions have been taken and will be defended in the face of outrageous facts and evidence. At least the vast majority of us agree that the only question over the Tory Party is the level of cúntery the latest lot are displaying. Intelligence is easily measured, and wisdom is a measure of approval by others. Knowledge can be accrued, and used (as experience) to inform future actions and statements. Simply go through life 1. With an inquiring mind 2. A reasonable memory, and 3. An ability to change your opinions when presented with evidence ..and you won't go far wrong. Oh, and 4. Never, ever, believe a Tory is acting in your interest. *Example - I heard Angela Rayner speak at the Big Meeting in 2017. I was more than impressed, and truly hoped I was looking at a future Party Leader. Now she's carrying a bag for that empty shirt Starmer, I fear I might have been right. She's lost my support, though. As a Socialist, Labour lost my membership (and vote) from 1996 to 2015. If the Leader and Sadow Cabinet don't grow a collective spine and sharpish, they'll be losing it again.
