NotThePars
Give it to Dunfermline and force Edinburgh on the backfoot for a week or so
eez-eh
Dunfermline probably makes the most sense historically. Larkhall is my banter submission.

Meldrew
Ireland being one country again probably isnt far away, so i think an expansion of Drongan would be the sensible choice.

Personally I think Saltcoats' time has come. the rule about cathedrals hasn’t been current in Scotland since the reformation got rid of bishops and thus cathedrals. City status is a secular matter here Staunch catholics, anglicans or Greek Orthodox types may wish to insist on their own list but Brechin and Kirkwall “cathedrals” (and for that matter “St Giles”) are just kirks as opposed to seats of bishops. Paisley qualifies under RC rules but under Episcopalian rules Millport would have a claim. oneteaminglasgow
Did Paisley not try quite hard to be granted city status before, and (obviously) never got it? On that basis, we should go with whatever will annoy them the most.
