"Russia will close its airspace to Romanian airliners “due to unfriendly decisions by Romanian aviation authorities”, Russian federal aviation agency Rosaviatsiya said on Saturday. Romania earlier banned Russian airlines from its airspace.

Meanwhile, Lithuania will also close its airspace to Russian airlines at 10pm GMT on Saturday due to the invasion, the government said, blocking access from Russia’s Kaliningrad enclave to Ukraine."

Kaliningrad completey cut off then?

"In the Sumy region, close to the border with Russia, a local resident came across an extraordinary sight. On a country road lined with birch trees, a Russian armoured vehicle had broken down.

He pulled up in his car and stopped. There was then a surreal conversation.

“Looks like you guys broke down” he said to three Russian soldiers, standing by the road. “We ran out of fuel,” one replied. “Can I tow you back to Russia,” he joked. They laughed and asked him for news. “Do you know where you are going?” he inquired. “No,” they answered."

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/feb/26/russia-lies-america-half-truths

"In 1943, the Hungarian-born journalist Arthur Koestler wrote: “In this war we are fighting against a total lie in the name of a half-truth.” That’s a good motto for American progressives to adopt in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Saying the US stands with Ukraine because America is committed to democracy and the “rules-based international order” is at best a half-truth. The US helps dictatorships like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates commit war crimes in Yemen, employs economic sanctions that deny people from Iran to Venezuela to Syria life-saving medicines, rips up international agreements like the Iran nuclear deal and Paris climate accords, and threatens the international criminal court if it investigates the US or Israel."

It can't be possible to occupy a country where the locals are willing to take up arms.

Meantime, surely all countries should be refusing to let any flights from Russia into their airspace and land (no doubt China would continue to let them fly, but they should be cut off from everywhere else)

Also a ramping up of product embargoes....don't buy anything from them, outside oil and gas (which is a problem in the grand scheme of things I know), but outside these cancel contracts on trading with Russia, have to aiming to force the Rouble through the floor as far as possible.

UEFA/FIFA et al have to get their fingers out now, and ban Russian sides from all International competition, as must the Olympic Committee, Tennis Federation, Ice Hockey Confed etc

Putin wants peace talks. Belarus also offered to host them.

Apparently there’s a history of officials attending such talks “disappearing”. Don’t think Belarus is an appropriate option. The Russians were also only going to have them if Ukraine completely demilitarised first, essentially surrendering, so not exactly talks then is it?
