My majorly unqualified opinion is that Russia would have invaded by now if they really intended on doing so.

It's just posturing and sabre-rattling IMO, to show that they could invade if they wanted to.

Russia does things like flying military jets into other countries airspace all the time for a laugh to see if they notice.

You were wrong you c**t.

Up ye.

So have "Stop The War" mobilised the masses for a protest march yet?

No?

Aye mate, a small section of the British public who don't like wars is definitely the issue here.

Starting to think this might not be the funny wee oppprtunity for football fixture jokes we all thought it was....
Keep the faith. It's all part of The Lord's plan to see John McGinn lift the trophy in Qatar.

What is the endgame here then? The West lets Vlad have the Ukraine while we all look away and pretend it was always like that?

Somewhere between that and full scale nuclear war, so it ought to be exciting if nothing else.

And yes.

Putin’s ability to act with impunity shows how weak the ‘Western democracies’ are.

That's a very good question, as the 'demilitarise' part of the Russian mission can only be brought about by establishing a permanent change of circumstances. There's no point disabling a military now, only for the West to rearm a furious Ukrainian government in the future.

The best way out of this mess is for European intermediaries to broker a neutrality guarantee for Ukraine. No, it is not going to join NATO despite what it says in their constitution. It does not need to be absorbed by Russia either (which would actually put NATO forces on their doorstep). Once guns start firing though, the chances of the only realistic settlement decrease substantially.

Weren't we all really. Trying to placate Putin was never going to work. He is an unhinged despot. Only Russians can themselves stop this. Is their any guts within Russia to take him out?

The West never tried to placate Putin - it insisted on the unlimited sovereignty of Ukraine to do whatever it wanted, and now Russia is aiming to demonstrate a different reality on the ground.
