My vote here is for Neil Warnock.

Seen his name in enough polls. Time to actually get him up here and see what he is all about.

He's only coming up for one Scottish club, and that's Greenock Morton.

Actually feel bad for Aberdeen fans looking at that list, Jack Dross would be such a shite appointment.

I had to look up Wiki to see who that Raphael guy was.....................

St Mirren fans can laugh off the debacle of Goodwin going to support Celtic in the cup final but I am sure other clubs have noted it and decided Jim is just not ready to step up a level. It was very small time.

Lot of baggage to take on a big Celtic fan as your manager.

Debacle?  He took his boy to watch a team that his boy supports.

Kinda telling that Graham Alexander's name never comes up in these discussions.  Why do you think that is?

At the end of the Scottish Cup Final of 1967, a Celtic fan shook my hand and said "I hope you win it before you're an old man." I thought "Cheeky sod", but on reflection it had been 20 years since the Dons had won it (their only win, at that point). Three years later the job was done, 23 years after the first win.

It is now 32 years since we won the cup. A 10 year old at the 2000 Scottish Cup Final has now gone 21 years waiting on the next triumph, although he will have seen a League Cup win.

I've been lucky, I've seen it all (maybe not in person, granted). Scottish Cup wins, League Cup wins, League titles, European trophies.

The only other fans (outwith the gruesome twosome) who can claim that they've witnessed their team win all the domestic honours, would be Dundee United, Kilmarnock, Hearts (he'd need to be about 71, I think if you're any younger than 10 you don't really appreciate cup or title wins), and Hibs. You'd need to be about 81 to remember Hibs winning the league, cup wins are a bit more recent. I suppose if there any 100 year old Motherwell fans about, you could add them to the list.

So that's fans of 6 teams who have seen their teams lift all the domestic honours, only 2 of whom could be younger than 50. I honestly don't think anyone other than Rangers or Celtic are going to win the title. One might have a bad season, but not both. And even when Rangers were absent it couldn't be done. I don't think any fan will witness their team winning all 3 domestic honours again.

The best that any of the rest of us can hope for is the odd cup win but 32 years without winning the Scottish Cup is a disgrace for a club the size of Aberdeen

Neil Warnock, Sam Allardyce, Nigel Adkins, Tony Pulis and Gary Monk are all Run of the mill English Championship/League One managers that are currently out of a job and have never managed in Scotland...maybe a couple of them would take an interest.
Also wasn't Steve McLaren heavily linked to Dundee United two years ago?
For the record none of these are managers I would be particularly excited about but it's just fun to name names.

Because he just signed a brand new contract with the well.

And after Brown and McGhee I think the odds of Aberdeen coming in for another motherwell manager won't be worth talking about for at least another 5 years.

Does having a poor month change things that much ?

The reason I wanted Glass out is he was tactically inept and we have looked a shambles. We've won TWO away games all season (one when the Livingston keeper spilled a shot over his own line and the other was a blatant hand ball by Jenks at Perth). We are losing games to poor teams.

Unless Cormack goes for another ridiculous appointment it shouldn't be too hard for the next manager to get us into the top 4 or 5.

Fair do’s. As a fan of a team who have appointed and bagged the likes of Stubbs or Murray in recent memory, I get it. I also should say that in asking what sort of success sees an Aberdeen manager get time, and not be sacked in the same time frame as Glass, I wasn’t suggesting Aberdeen fans think they should be splitting the OF, winning cups all the time and maybe even challenging for the title like the good old days. Given that scenario is highly unlikely any more for Aberdeen (or anyone that isn’t an ugly), I wondered just what gives an Aberdeen manager time to last as long as a McInnes.

It’s easier to know at St Mirren. Don’t be in a genuine relegation bottom two scrap every season, don’t get pumped out the cups by a lower league diddy, and don’t go on long winless runs at home, where we rack up every week through gritted teeth and blind loyalty. Jim has reached a good place in that regard at present. We are looking forward to games now, rather than thinking ‘shit, another home game’.

Goodwin recently signed an extension with us.  It might be the Brown and McGhee thing but it's kinda weird that Goodwin is being touted and Alexander isn't.

Motherwell have never really looked in danger this season, you're having a crap run but still sitting fourth yet every time a vacancy comes up Goodwin gets a mention and Alexander doesn't.  I've even seen Dee fans who want McPake punted mentioning Goodwin as a replacement.  Why doesn't Alexander even enter into the discussion?

Could do a lot worse than Martindale.

Martindale isn't far off getting English and you want to throw Doric in to the mix?

Recently? it is nearly a year ago Goodwin signed an extension. Alexander hasn't even completed a full season in charge yet.

And "every time a vacancy comes up"? Which ones in particular? Be specific.

Goodwin seems to be the flavour of the month just now, that can quickly change. Maybe keeping Motherwell in the top flight is not seen as the same achievement it is at St Mirren.
