Recommended Posts

A UK wide emergency alert system test is to be carried out by the government on Sunday April 23.  Most mobile phones in the country will recieve a message at 3pm on Sunday stating

This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there's a life-threatening emergency nearby.

In a real emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe.

Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information.

This is a test. You do not need to take any action

Some people have criticised the test for endangering people who require to have hidden phones, such as those in abuse relationships.  Refuge have produced a video to help those in such situations.

How do P&Bers feel about this test?

What message would P&Bers like to deliver to the entire population of the country, perhaps one with a P&B theme?

In a real emergency, please open all windows in your home and vehicle and turn the heating up full blast.

This will presumably be one of the ways to inform people they're about to be incinerated in a nuclear attack.

'WARNING: The UK is under attack. In approximately three minutes cities and large towns across the UK will be hit with nuclear missiles. Please take shelter immediately.'

The U.S. had this little bullshit a few years ago when Trumpie bear wanted a new system to send out important messages (in his opinion, no way that’ll go wrong). At my workplace you were required to switch off phones while inside working quarters (interference issues), and the test outed about 70% of the workforce as non-compliant. One day, one time you had to switch it off, you absolute bell ends, you got what you deserved!

It will terrify the whole country and the Government should instead scrap mixed-sex NHS wards to improve public safety.

No wonder we fail at everything.

We get phone alerts pretty often - National Weather Service in the case of hefty storms and County/State Amber Alerts to report if you see a vehicle registered Illinois 123XYZ or whatever (usually kidnappings). I don't think it's ever even come up in conversation and the Americans get overexcited at *really* daft shit.
