no

.... and why not?

If the best team wins the Tier 6 play-off does it matter if that team came second or even third in their Tier 6 league behind unlicenced teams which were not able to enter the play-offs?

No is just a means to block promotion. No thanks.

But if one of the teams who win the EoS/SoS/WoS has a license why should they have to play a play off against unlicensed teams who could finish 2nd/3rd/4th/5th?

It's not blocking promotion as there is only 1 promotion place between the 3 leagues anyway

Champions get the chance of promotion. If the individual leagues ever get their own promotion spot, they can decide how they want to do with it. While there's just the one spot, no champion should be lumped with an unnecessary play-off.

Fact is there wouldn't be this hand-wringing over best placed teams if it wasn't for the WoSFL failing to provide a licensed champion. If it hadn't been for Creetown getting their license this summer, no one would have been begging for 6th placed Newton Stewart to get a crack at the play-off.

Apologies if I didn't make it clear. You would only allow licenced teams into the play-offs. However, that would include teams which the SFA is recommending should get their licence in time for the forthcoming season e.g. if Creetown didn't win the SoS and it was won by an unlicenced team.

Re FairWeatherFan's comment.

Let's just get the best teams promoted asap. It matters not that a team goes up from 2nd or even 3rd position, provided they are the best of the play-off teams.

If Abbey Vale or Lochar win the league there won’t be a playoff. Linlithgow will go straight up unless Creetown win, then there will be a playoff.

Has this been confirmed and ratified by the S.F.A. are we aware ? Didn’t Beith say there had been a freeze on the application process somewhere !

That would certainly have spared Newton a torrid play off situation judging by last nights utter capitulation at Abbey Vale …………….ouch !

Be a better and fairer looking pyramid. If it was one from each league.

A champion is going to be promoted to the Lowland League this season. Since they were able to win their league over the course of a season. I'd say they're the best team.

The 3 way play-off is basically a couple of cup games and is hardly a reflection of the best Tier 6 team. At least when it happens it will be with equals, the champions of their respective leagues.

It's in the rules that only the winners of the WOSFL, EOSFL and the SOSFL can be put forward for the playoff on condition that they hold a SFA license. If any winner does not have a license then they are not allowed to participate in the playoff.
As license will not be granted until, June, I believe,  It has been agreed that as Creetown have passed all the criteria to be granted their license so they would be put forward to the playoff ONLY if they win the SOSFL.   Beith cannot be granted a waiver as they haven't passed all SFA license conditions so would not be able to be granted a license in June, thus they are not allowed to play in the playoff if they won the WOSFl, which looks highly likely that they will win.

Team who want to join the SOSFL, WOSFL and the EOSFL have to meet certain criteria to be able to participate in the leagues so suppose there have to be criteria to reach each level

Thank you for that. The rules are rules then however crazy? A case of putting up whilst it gets to a level playing field ! I believe in that case a time line should be imposed to obtain  a license.

It's not a new process that Leagues set minimum criteria for eligibility. Clubs have previously been denied access to the SPL Premier League because they didn't have 10,000 seats (e.g. Falkirk in 2003).  Thankfully that rule has gone, but there are others for entry to the LL or HL which are reasonable, like floodlights, an enclosed ground, cover for spectators, public toilets and disabled facilities,

Yes. If Creetown win the league the playoffs will be 20th and 27th May. Two legs, first leg at Linlithgow.

Thing about it is all teams go into the league knowing they have to get the license to have any chance of the play offs if they win the league , I don't know the criteria for the license but I'm sure getting it involved ground and facility improvements which takes away from what a team can spend on their squad ? We needed to get the grass embankments tiered for standing last season for league 1 which cost over £150k much better for us as spectators but did have an impact on our playing budget but  rules are rules and fair play to Lithgie for having all their things in order to go up playoffs or no playoffs

Best team in their league for sure, and this season Linlithgow Rose are outstanding in the EoS. However, are they outstanding when compared with the leading licenced clubs in the WoS e.g. Darvel, Pollok, Auchinleck Talbot, Clydebank etc? Nope!

As the Rose have not played any of them you are guessing.

No one is suggesting that Linlithgow Rose shouldn't be in the Lowland League and good luck to them next season.

Anyhow the best teams are being held back, as we all understand, so there needs to be change and that is the point which is being made by many others too.

Held back by a time-travelling administrative anarchist that went back in time to confuse Beith Juniors & the local council so that in 2022/2023 their would be confusion over who owns their ground. If it hadn't been for that, it sounds like they would have been licensed for next season.
