I cant see him walking away from a 3yr deal.

Nor walking away from managing in the top flight this early.

Genuine question.  Why did the St Johnstone board feel they needed to offer him a 3 year deal?  Were they that confident they thought he would do well?   Surely St Johnstone was the biggest club to offer him the chance to be a manager?  I can’t imagine there would have been clubs of any decent size lining up to sign him.

Unsure.

Best guess is because they knew a major rebuild was needed and maybe felt a manager with security would be more willing to look long term than one who has the threat of the sack over him from day one.

I think people outwith Saints really are under estimating the scale of job MacLean has/had this Summer/season.

I did regret not voting Johnson at the time. I fully accept that my vote for Robson was due to being a Jambo still bitter about last season, refusing to believe the team that lost a 11-0 in Edinburgh and lost to Darvel in like the space of a week could

a) go on a 9 match winning run

b) overhaul Hearts for 3rd.

So yes, I'm bitter. His booking today definitely shows signs of losing the plot early on..... 😉

More grumpiness on sportsound when interviewed......

Surprised Johnson's getting much of a mention in this. He plays decent football and last season was generally fairly enjoyable with a couple of shit blips.

So far I'd say the signings seem sensible and we could possibly be seeing a couple of the good loan players from last season returning.

I think it's more perception than reality that Hibs sack managers frequently. We gave Jack Ross the bullet and Maloney soon after, and it appeared like the same fate might await Johnson but it didn't and he's still here and doing well. Prior to that you'd have to look at Heckingbottom for being another manager given relatively short shrift with those appointed either side of him given decent time.

I reckon it's more likely Johnson gets a job down south than gets sacked by us, that's my bold take.

As for who goes first, Jim Goodwin's in the Championship and the Hearts situation is a fairly obvious ruse. Sneaking suspicion it might be Robinson. Not necessarily his fault as the squad are being sold off from under him but that creates tension in itself. I don't think it'd necessarily be a fair sacking, albeit I don't really know a huge amount about St Mirren's current situation, but it's my gut feeling.

Was reportedly close to being sacked a few times last season, seemed obvious that the 1st poor run would be under pressure again.

Heard the same, it was never far away.  Doubtless he will pop up on Talksport talking down Scottish football soon......

You know I've reflected that I made this post several times since the season started. It's startling how badly I called it!

Not sure the word is even apt but I was submerged in hubris from signing Dylan Levitt. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

Wonder what this will cost Hibs?

Won't help playing budget if Wee Lee goes on gardening leave and they have to pay compensation if they wan't the likes of Robinson or McInnes. Same auld cycle of woe...

The last few management teams have been well paid, but only on 3 months compensation if given the bullet.

I honestly quite like Johnston. I wouldn't necessarily want him managing my team but I always seen him more as a weird guy who likes talking too much rather than an ego maniac.

He was tolerably entertaining whilst things were going alright, a fifth placed finish last season seemed fine in the circumstances. Sadly I can't really see him being at any other club in the league than Hibs so his patter contribution to the Cinch has been snuffed out.
