Partick Thistle Vs Raith Rovers

Recommended Posts

Probably fair on account of how open the 1st half was but thats really, really poor. Chucking on dowds and adeloye backfired spectacularly on the face of it. Deffo need a good quality anchor man.

Doubly frustrating as neilson at cb and williams at rb looked ok as a back four.

Mitchell maybe a bit dodgy for 2-1, dont think it was in the corner.

Tactical master class from Doolan.

Tbf given the turnover of players theres still going to be a bit of work on what our best starting 11 is. Graham getting subbed off was fine and Adeloye nearly scored.

Neilson as a CB looked decent, Wasiri looked shaky by comparison.

Couple more players in and we should be fine. Deflating as it is, its not unfixable.

We'll play much better than that and lose this season. A point is just reward for the perseverence, but I think we have we just as much reason to point to Thistle's substitutions. Each one made them weaker, and as soon as Jack McMillan (man of the match by an absolute mile) went off, we started getting change out of that right back area.

There's a lot of optimism to take from that, but mostly due to the circumstances rather than the game itself. Away to Firhill is going to be one of the tougher games we'll get and we've come away with a point despite the players we had missing, and those who were clearly off pace. While we'll always have injuries to contend with, hopefully there won't be too many games that we're going into without a right back or a defensive midfielder. Euan Murray, understandably, looked underprepared but he'll benefit from the 90 minutes. Jack Hamilton, as he did last week, looked absolutely shattered after an hour. I don't know if that's just a disrupted pre-season thing or a built-in feature, but if it's the latter then the urgency of our need for a second number 9 steps up significantly.

Ultimately a point is only a point, but (contrary to the real story of the game) we'll probably get a bigger boost out of that than Thistle do, just with the way it ended.

The big thing will be whether or not we carry lessons into the Morton game. An injured player or two back would be nice, but regardless there needs to be more thought given to protecting the defence and packing the midfield when the opposition are running through it.

Threw that away. Unfortunate for the first goal we conceded with the deflection, but there’s no excuse for not seeing that out.

Wasiri Williams needs to learn to just get rid of the ball as soon as he gets it. Was routinely putting us in trouble by trying to overplay.

Positive signs but hugely frustrating.

Substitutions killed us. Dowds in particular was terrible, letting Watson who had spent 70 minutes being outpaced by Graham jog passed him in the build up to the second.

Raith had a a few good chances but we should’ve had that wrapped up comfortably.

Dowds was awful. Admittedly, I think the linesman gave a throw-in to Raith when Milne kept the ball in just prior to the equaliser.

Playing (or not) like he might be out the door. Maybe Arbroath will offer a fee for him?

For all the midfielders we have, we still don't have one who can tackle.

Some positive signs in first half but Williamson and McInroy still need to bed in, although both looked decent.

Hard to work out Rovers. Bright 5 minutes at the start but then we controlled the first half then the second half seemed pretty comfortable from Thistle until the subs began to take their toll.

Early days but not a great start.
