Morton v Ayr - Opening Day 2023/2024

Recommended Posts

League action is back.

I'm excited. Don't really know what to expect, so no point speculating too much.

Hopefully we can bring a good crowd through. Cue 5 pages of conversation about being in the main stand instead of terracing.

A good opening game, two teams that probably overachieved last season based on their squads, Both a year older and wiser.

Ayr edged it last year but have changed the footballing philosophy slightly from Last year that might suit Morton.

the ideal result is Dougie Imrie raging at McGinty and making a tit of himself again while wearing childrens trousers

It's not ton trooper is it? No doubt he'll be along shortly to spam the thread.

Tontrooper doesn't typically finish his bottle of rubbing alcohol or other equivalent from the cleaning cupboard and head back upstairs to the laptop until 02:00 BST.

Expect a tough midfield battle in this bit ultimately an Ayr win because we aren't stupid enough to employ Jack Baird.

1-3.

Jack Baird is of no concern (for your attackers), he's injured.

The obvious concern for us is we only have 3 fit defenders at the club.

Cameron Blues has been deputising as a make shift rb and has done well enough but he is suspended after being sent off on the last day.

Now we are through the groups, Dougie will have more funds to bring in players and said yesterday he hopes to have a couple before next Saturday. If we pull a big fish today, I'd imagine that will help even more although I'd imagine many fans would want you lot or Airdrie.

Would like to think we get at least one defender and don't need to play another midfielder as rb.

Apart from that, we look a threat going forward. Robbie Crawford has added goals to his game and is probably our must important player. Quitongo, Boyd and Mcgrattan have all started the season well too and young Alexander King looked very good yesterday so wouldn't be surprised if he starts over an out of sorts Gillespie.

Up top big Gorgeous George will cause problems with his physicality. I just hope Dougie doesnt play Muirhead as a number 10 off him. Bench either him or Oakley and have Boyd, Crawford and Quitongo in behind one of them.

Should be a good opener as long as we get a defender or two in.

Hopefully you lot are in the shed or wde.

2-2.

I hope you have invested in better stewarding to keep fans of the pitch this time.

Photo totally out of context. Dougie was just walking over to McGinty to offer him a finger of the Kit-Kat he had in his trouser pocket.

That's fucking gratitude for you ....

Few questions over our starting 11 next week for different reasons. Up top and out wide as we have a good range of players to pick and chose from and have all had goals and assists during the course of the league cup group. Think it will probably still be Bryden and McKenzie with Rose maybe still a few weeks away from full match fitness. McGeady probably won’t be involved. Albinson missed yesterday (although was always going to be Mutch starting) with a back injury, unsure how severe. Stanger suspended after his sending of in the play offs v Hamilton and not sure what’s happening with Musonda, so every chance McAllister partnering McGinty at centre half and you’d imagine that will bring Hewitt in at right back. On the assumption we don’t bring in any new players before then.

Will be a good opening game with 2 teams and sets of fans who will fancy their chances after a good pre season and league cup campaign. Think we’ll bring a good support and Morton will have a good one as well so all the hallmarkings of a cracking opener. So a boring 0-0 is in store.

Thanks for bringing my optimism crashing down with the thought of that back four!

I'd rather play Watret at right back rather than Hewitt. Where is Musonda? It's been like radio silence.
