Stevie Kirk
Do Rangers and Celtic actually get to choose their preferred referee for each game? I have wondered this for a while , lobbying in the background for sympathetic refs. You wouldn’t put it past them .
Shuggie_Murray7
I am very much looking forward to loudly booing Rae and Walsh.

Are there any refs who *aren’t* sympathetic to the OF?
Ranaldo Bairn
Why was Murray so bad with you guys? He was excellent with Dumbarton, and pretty good to very good with Airdrie and Raith.

I don't mean that we are massive, (though, of course, we are...) more that we were an absolute basket case at that point. Just relegated from the prem, divisions in the dressing room, senior pros who were about the same age as Murray who were never going to respect him, no recruitment strategy, the players he did bring in were shite, came into a strong league with Hibs and Rangers... he was just miles out his depth to the point that Alex Rae represented a brief improvement. Obviously the above is the 'doing him some credit' view. Others will point out his terrible tactics and lack of leadership, etc. I think he was 34 when he took that job and it was just too much for him. It took a change of club ownership and, eventually, an inspired 18 months under Jack Ross to turn us around. The club wasn't in a great place and was going through a bit of upheaval with the sale and things. We'd just been relegated and didn't have a strong squad, in a Championship containing Rangers and Hibs. Ultimately though, he signed shite players and seemed to lack conviction. In his interviews he was utterly uninspiring. He also brought in an absolute no mark as his assistant, who was then thrown under a bus when things weren't going well.

It puts him under pressure too, it wasnt as if his last game wasnt without controversy, disallowing 3 goals, 2 of which should have stood (even though the offside one was down to VAR). I suppose he could give us everything on Sunday to avoid accusations of bias, you just never know...

SR could stoke the fire in his pre-match with a harmless dig , like , "we're surprised we've got the same ref again so soon , as there were some tight calls a couple of weeks ago". It worked for wee Gus a couple of times !

The common sense thing to do when a referee has made a series of questionable calls in your match is to ensure he stays away from said team for a bit. Not give him the very next home game.

And if any booing or pressure from Saints fans/officials he’ll favour our opponents to show he’s not going to be put under any pressure. If we don’t, he’ll think we were happy with that last performance, and continue to favour our opponents. Balance.

No doubt Robbo would be charged and fined with bringing the game into disrepute or some such charge. One rule for them…. Let’s do our talking on the pitch. 4-1 Saints would be a fitting tribute to Zico who would have played in this game had he not been injured!
