Your dream job

When I was younger I thought that I wanted to be a chef, but once actually being a chef I discovered that it was actually a nightmare that I was not mature enough to deal with in an appropriate manner, so I turned to alcohol.

My second dream job was becoming a Mental Health Nurse. This became seemingly unattainable as life got in the way, and I eventually gave up on it.

During the pandemic, I applied to study Mental Health Nursing at university thinking "why not?", and I actually got in. I am currently less than a year away from qualifying as a Mental Health Nurse.

Long story short, don't give up on your dreams. It's never too late to change course for something you want.

Slight problem there.

I'm married.

I am lucky enough to have had what many would consider a dream job.

I worked in the Casino on cruise ships (mainly a world famous Ocean Liner) for about 8 years in the 90s.

The work actually interrupted the social life onboard the ships, the drinks were dirt cheap and though there were official closing times for the crew bars, we could often still be awake when breakfast was being served in the crew mess.

Working in the Casino we also had any port time off unlike other jobs on the ship who were working in port.

Footballer or a soldier were my dream jobs growing up. Now? most jobs not in an office or warehouse* where you typically don't have to deal with too many clients/customers would fit where I'm at with a preference for being able to travel a bit at least.

Anything that involves starting fires or blowing things up.

I tried desperately to convince the police and my parents growing up that this was my intended career path.

Never too late I suppose?
