Saints v Buddies 6/12/23

Recommended Posts

Another half showing how much progress we've made/are making. We're pretty much competitive in most games just now.

Yet another half that shows we lack any form of threat from our wing backs and no killer instinct in the box.

Poor tonight especially our back line who have contributed zero. Fraser's first four 'crosses' were either at knee height; hit the defender in front of him; or he hit it to the far post without looking and  no-one anywhere near it. Dunne can only 'pass' straight out the park. And Gogic invariably takes quick free kicks to the man nearest him who isn't expecting it and any advantage is lost. O'Hara is only passing sideways. A wee bit of class can go a long way - pity there is none on display.

We don't play full backs.

Bolton is a CH who can play right back, not wing back.

A damning indictment of your footballing knowledge more like.

I'd argue that Bolton (who by appearance history is actually a RB who can play CH) is more suited to RWB, even in a purely defensive capacity than McMenamin who simply isn't a wing back in any way.

There's almost nothing upfront without Clark.

And this is part of the problem, beginning to think Robinson has it in his contract that he must play with 3 at the back. With the players currently available, we can no longer effectively play that system, hence our recent poor results.

St Mirren’s tactic of making sure we can’t go down the left when we have the ball in possession is very effective. Basically means everything has to go through Brown who isn’t much of an attacker at the best of times and is having a bit of a nightmare in any event.

Some slight flashes of life from us going forward but we’re desperately missing Wright and Clark just now.

Yeah theres nothing really.

We seem to play the ball well, but then it just collapses to some powderpuff effort from range.

Someone needs to just run at someone near the box, and actually leather the ball.

My brother knows a guy who supports Plymouth who said he said when we signed him that he was "a solid but unspectacular CH."

Only really going by that.

56 minutes in and some of our players looked fucked already.

Its embarrassing despite the shift they put in on Sunday.

I'm struggling to see why as MacLean was pretty clear that he was prioritising fitness.

Unless he utterly lost the dressing room and they were all on the pints and pizza in the evening.
