Something that has been glaringly omitted in the media’s coverage of this has been the complete failure of the aid agencies, especially the UN. I don’t doubt the “gangs” are committing horrific crimes, but it is no surprise that the populace of Haiti has no desire to let the president remain in power or to allow the organisations such as the UN back in after the crimes that were committed against them by these so called aid workers and peacekeepers.

Given his recent take on Ukraine, shouldn't he be telling the Haitian government to raise the white flag?

While the gangs are anarchic and committing extreme violence, they are also political.  Political parties use them as muscle or to get the vote out, and in the vacuum caused by the assassination and the paralysis of the political process they've become their own entities.  There are also what get called vigilante gangs, who form to protect their neighbourhoods.  Last year a movement formed to combat the gangs and several hundred gang members were killed, often burned alive.

One of the faciliites attacked by the gangs is the central prison and a number of people associated with the assassination of the last elected President were freed, although the Colombians who carried out the shooting are apparently still there.

Sad to say that the only state where slaves revolted and threw out their colonial rulers isn't proving a great example for fan ownership of football clubs.

Haiti would be in better shape if not for the horrendous treatment by other countries, especially France and the USA,

France allowed the revolt as long as they still got their money.  Haiti was forced to pay a staggering amount to France.

Also, Haiti was boycotted by other countries that still had slavery.  In the USA, slaves accounted for 57% of the population in South Carolina and Mississippi was similar.  The last thing they wanted was for Haiti to be a success.

An agreement has been reached for the acting President/PM to step down, transitional council to take control and set a timeframe for elections. Whether any of it makes a difference remains to be seen.
