AM-1
What does the future hold for the Lang. A once famous club at this level & the demise is sad to see. I used to go along to Somervell but with a hectic home life I find spare time rare these days. It looks like the ground needs major work, P McC needs help behind the scenes running the club and on the pitch stability is required. Such a shame to see a club nose dive so much.

Last time I was there ( season before last ) you could see a big deterioration in the state of the place. A real shame
Shanner
Grew up in the 80's in absolute awe of what they had done in the Junior Cup. One of those storied and revered names from the golden age of the juniors and the team whose record you'd love your own side to emulate. I know they've been managed badly and there are generations of fans that their reputation will mean nothing to now but from a nostalgic point of view I hope they don't go out of business or anything like that.
Lokloyal
Yes agree with the above. A famous club with a great record in days gone by but the support/interest has dwindled and the ground is in really bad condition so a lot needed to rescue things.Just hope they can turn it around.

It's mad that it was considered cup final worthy until the final days of the Juniors in the west. The progress that the well run clubs have made with their grounds since then has flung a really stark light on the likes of Camby. Suddenly a lot of places really look their age.

No one can say the manager hasn’t put his heart and sole into it. He gets players and gives them opportunities to play and move on if good enough.

One of the reasons that they got finals was because they had a really good committee who made sure everything was spot on, pitch was always in good nick and hospitality was first class. They now don't have a committee at all to speak of, at least going by the last few times we have played them.
Bestsinceslicebread
I watched a cup final a few years ago at Sommerville park, think it was Pollok and...Kilwinning? The park, honestly, was one of the worst surfaces I've ever seen at that level , never mind a cup final. It was end of season cup final so maybe the weather had got to it

Played after we'd lost the Junior Cup Final against Beith. Pollok won 7-1.
lokforever
Pitch was in great nick apart from a wee bit bare in one of the goals

Maybe it was a massive version of the Mandela Effect. Maybe there was no shoot out or top of the range cars with attache cases with ten of thousands in used notes. Aye but other clubs spent a few quid. lol.

Sorry Archie, I was mistaken, it wasn't a final, it was a league match I was informed it was a league match between Cambuslang and Kilwinning. in the premier league at the end of last season and the pitch was in a horrendous state. I also remember watching Pollok at Cambuslang, sure it was the same season earlier and the pitch looked OK My bad
glensmad
The article, although it appears on the Daily Record website, is actually written by Lanarkshire Live Sport for the Rutherglen Reformer, who are all under the same banner. The article is the back page story in this week's printed copy of the Reformer, but it doesn't appear in the printed copy of the Daily Record. Most of the local newspapers in North and South Lanarkshire operate under the same banner.
onemanwolfpack
No mention of the state of the pitch. Grass looked like it has been cut with a stimmer about two weeks earlier. Unfortunately for Cambuslang the pitch and surroundings have went downhill recently.
cultured_left_foot
My local team, try and get along to their games when I can. I used to play Junior before I moved to Cambuslang and Somervell was my favourite away ground, the pitch was usually in really good nick and the place was well looked after. Unfortunately the pitch now is one of the worst at its level and the ground looks dilipidated. The committee seems to have dried up and it now seems as though Paul McColl is the only person on the scene which, although his heart may be in the right place, a one man show is never good for any club. They put a post up on Facebook at the start of the season looking for helpers so I messaged back saying I'd be interested in helping out when I had availability but I never got a response. I don't know what the future holds for them but I think there needs to be changes. The reputation of the club also took a bit of a battering over recent years which is a real shame as its a club in a town with a decent sized population and there is potential for them to be a lot better than what they are.

Management were offered help which would have involved specialist coaching, combining players from their excellent Academy. Reje

TediousTom
The pitch should have been in great condition. When I visited to watch the Burgh (earlier in the season right enough) the grass hadn't been cut! The ground needs work but I like it. These old grounds have character and I would rather watch football in a ground like that than (say) the Donald Dewar Centre or at Ashfield. Not that anyone asked but the ground that I liked the best this season was K park. The variety of grounds at this level is awesome...we need to preserve them!
