jmothecat
I always considered 'Jerusalem' to be basically a socialist anthem. When reading the Blake poem I always think it's a clear representation of basic left-wing belief. To see a bunch of Jingoistic little Englanders waving the British flag and singing it just doesn't feel or look right. Do two mentions of England make it somehow acceptable to British nationalists? If the Red Flag included a line about their country would they patriotically sing that so loud?Jingoistic crap.

The "dark satanic mills" was supposed to be about early factories and capitalism taking over from the feudal idyll that peasants lived in beforehand. Alternatively it was about the irreligious nonsense being spouted about maths and sciences in the Universities and corrupting the privileged youth. Take your pick. Blake was a bit of a nutter.

capybara
Anyway. My dear old dad (87)had a wee low speed bump yesterday (in his car) I have had to say that's it. Off the road. He agrees. Tough for him. But safer.

19QOS19
I like a lot of the older British sitcoms; OFAH and Fawlty Towers being my two favourites. But Dads Army is one I've never got around to watching. That's my contribution to this discussion.

Hedgecutter
Waking up with a dead arm after you've managed to sleep on it. Happened to me last night and I had absolutely no feeling in the arm at all. Lifted it with the other hand and the hand just flopped about for a couple of minutes. I've had similar a few times where I've woken up with nasty pins and needles but never had it in the way that I couldn't move anything for a good few minutes. If the truth be told, I was absolutely shiteing it that I'd somehow 'killed' my arm, having no idea how many hours I'd been cutting circulation off with my resting head.

Same happened to me last year. Was lying in bed thinking i had lost my arm, lifted it with my other one then felt the blood returning. What a feeling of relief that was. When it's happened again, it's a nice feeling truth be told to feel it coming back.
Hedgecutter
I hope you took full advantage with a sly imaginary w**k? Using the left hand to move and slap the dead immobile right one against the knob would have been the limit.

Happens to me quite a lot and t does worry me that it might do damage but I find getting feeling back very satisfying.
