Exactly. It's the fact news outlets never used to bat an eyelid at a ferry cancellation. Abd as if to reinforce it BBC Scotland on breakfast this morning leading on.........yip another ferry (non) story.

Todays story is from a Lib Dem FOI request about........maintenance costs over the last 5 years in Cal Mac.

Apparently this is "news".

BBC Scotland (and particularly breakfast) are unlistenable now, its like the aural Daily Express.

It's these little calculations that blow my mind.

Was just catching up on the final episode of Race Across the World last night, where the stat that got me was the finish point on the East coast of Canada is closer to Dublin, than it is to where the contestants started on the West coast of Canada.

Tbf that's because they don't have enough journalists, so the journalists they have rely on low hanging fruit. I agree an FOI is hardly news it's more accurately olds given it stuff happend in the past that's been published by the government.

I think someone at the Beeb has decided they need ferry stories and instead of getting out, maybe getting an undercover journo into the ship building site they are reporting useless information.

Anything that shows the SNP in a bad light will be on STV or BBC Scotland news.  Do people not realise this?

Also, do people who consciously choose to live on a fucking island not realise that things with engines can break down? Or at the very least, cause your journey to be delayed?

Personally, I'm always very aware that I should try to keep public walkways clear, just in case I ever find myself in front of, for example, a seething and increasingly impatient heavy-set giant in an Alloa Athletic shirt.

This is one of my personal hates, muppets blocking doorways going in and out, or when in the shop how to walk away from the self service / checkout without walking back on yourself and into the next customer, or standing between the provided bus shelter and the shops thus blocking the narrowest area of pavement, or walking two abreast down supermarket aisles just far enough apart to block anyone coming the other way, or walking in groups 4 or 5 wide down pavements then being shocked when people  walking towards them hope one will get out the way.

If I went out more I would end up screaming 'spatial awareness you neanderthal muppets' but they wouldn't have a fucking clue what it meant never mind how to do it. I'm glad I WFH 50% of the time, humanity mostly irritates me when I have to deal with it face to face.

The only thing the news about maintenance costs is missing is dumbing it down into units of measurement the seething masses can relate to.

£26 million would pay 1000 new nurses for a year.

The equivalent cost of 300 new electric buses.

Etc.

The Northern tip of Brazil is closer to Canada than it is to the Southern tip of Brazil

Carlisle being further east than Edinburgh was one that surprised me.

A) The job of a competent ferry company and contracted suppliers is to ensure maintenance and sufficient spare capacity to deal with breakdowns. Cal-Mac and their chump suppliers have failed to do this.

B) They have also been cancelling ferries and stranding people for completely ridiculous reasons like 'fog' at the weekend, as if visibility is much better when running services at 7pm at night in November conditions.

Folk who crowd round the train doors at Queen Street/Waverley knowing full well that everyone on the train will be getting off at this stop leaving a tiny wee avenue for folk to squeeze through

I just stand blocking the door until the plebs get the message and move aside.

I lived on an island for 9 years and cancellations were just a part of life. It could be annoying but there was nothing I could do about it. It didn't happen often and in my time there, it never made the news.

Yep, nothing to do with them falling under the watch of an anti-Union party.

They never broke down, ever, under Labour.
