Im off to the London Stadium next weekend. For some reason the wee man has a fondness for West Ham (despite regailing him with Ian Bryson stories at The Blades). So he is 11 on Wednesday and wanted to do the stadium tour as part of his birthday. Fly down Sunday morning, head to the Wolves game as a surprise bonus (about half the price of our Rugby Park seasons.....) then the tour on Monday morning before flying back up. Hope he appreciates my sacrifice 😀

Trip to the Borders today to see Gala Fairydean Rovers at home to Celtic B. 2-1 win for Celtic. Crowd around 300, I guess?!

Gala Rugby playing Melrose in a double header over the fence at the same time. Caught most of the 2nd XV game before the football. Melrose won that 40-7.

East Craigie 8 Downfield 0

Trip to Craigie Park to see what the league leaders were all about. Having seen Downfield put up a decent display against Blantyre of the WOSL Premier, I knew that they couldn't score goals, but soon found out they couldn't defend either. Could have been far more, including a missed pelanty at 6-0. Thought the standard was pretty woeful but much of that was down to the bumpy park. The Shipbuilders did get a decent passing game going especially second half.
Cracking weather though, amused myself between goals by working out that the white hill with the masts is probably Craigowl.

Was trying to figure out what the greenhousey things were in the background and then I realised it was a lot of greenhouses. Is it a Dundee thing to have allotments right beside a football ground?

Having a wee Google Maps visit to East Craigie I see they have an enormous cemetery down one touchline (like Pittodrie (ish), East End Park and Parkhead, and no doubt a few others), and lots of oil rig type structures down in the Tay.

Right up my street. I'd scarcely be watching the game with all that going on around me.

Added it to my wee list of grounds I need to visit.

Tell me the pies were good?

No games for me today alas, perhaps next weekend!

I'm afraid I've given up pies except if I'm desperate. I had a wee look anyway as there was a sign to the 'shop' and I thought they might have badges, but I think it was down a wee rabbit hole and the teams were coming back out.

Was very, very close to heading to Craigie Park but instead stayed on the bus for a few more stops to go to Fairfield Park.

Dundee St James 7-0 Lochee Harp
Midlands League - Att: ~110

Chose this game because I'd thought it'll be close!

It was men against boys from the first whistle, obviously Harp have recently lost their manager, but they really did not look like a side in the Top Half of the Division - they looked woeful. It was 4-0 at HT, and if St James (who I was impressed with earlier in the season when I saw them play as Fintry against Ferry Athletic) could have scored 10 if they really wanted.

First time visiting the decent wee set up at Fairfield Park, a nice enclosure and it would be a very tidy ground.

There’s enough parks in Dundee for a groundhopper convention. I saw two shifty looking groundhopper types today. Maybe they thought the same about me but at least I wasn’t wearing a backpack or taking hundreds of pics 😂

I looked this up on Google Maps too in order to check for proximity to the Dundonian Trinity: allotments, cemeteries and oil rigs.

None of the above located. But what in the name of Paul Hegarty is that big asteroid crater thing beside the park?

I think it used to be a school at one point?

There used to be a gas tank/holder and if my memory hasn’t deserted me I think that’s where it was.

Kriens 0 Aarau 5 last night.

Aarau top of the league and Kriens all but relegated with a third of the season left. First visit to Kleinfeld, cracking wee ground for a club of that stature, very good community set up.

Half wish I’d gone to this one mind you:

Noticed that Joel Sked was at Tenerife v Ibiza today. Look out for a big Saltire flag at the halfway line in one of his photos. Then noticed the Tenerife club crest. Looks familiar!

I was at a Tenerife game during a week's holiday in the 90s. Walking up to the stadium I saw a guy with a Saltire draped over his shoulders. He passed by before I could think of something witty to shout (as you do). Then when I got in I saw the far end festooned with flags and the penny dropped... they used to let them in cheap at that end but it filled up really early so it was packed.
Most people around me didn't seem all that interested in the game TBH, and with it being about 27 degrees even at 9pm, everybody was buying cold drinks. Many folk had their Real or Barca tops on and the electronic scoreboard was keeping them up to date with the big two who both had fixtures that night.
