For today plenty of games were off, mainly for Covid reasons. That included Lochee United v Dunipace, which was my original plan. Plans changed a few times since but I ended up at New Victoria Park for Newtongrange Star 0-2 Darvel. The guests took a lead early on, which I managed to capture on a photo. The hosts had some chances to draw level until Darvel scored their second, but I think this was a fair result.

Aberfoyle Rob Roy 5-6 Gartocharn in the Forth and Endrick League tonight.

Eaten alive by midges, but what a game! Amazing comeback from Garto, who were 4-0 down just before halftime.

State of that pitch and it's July 😃!

That’s a proper amateur league pitch! Give me that over any 3G cages 😍

Lossiemouth 3-1 Colony Park. They never said anything about it being behind closed doors, so I joined a gaggle watching over the wall from the railway path. Turned out my Google Maps reconnaissance during lockdown for grounds where you could watch from outside came in handy.

Standard pre-season fare, Lossie were clearly the better side although the result was in doubt when the visitors pulled it back to 2-1. Lossie got another in the last couple of minutes to make it 3-1. Stand-out feature was the pitch - like the rest of the ground around here it's bone dry and yellow. Badly in need of the forecast rain.IMG_20210703_142453842_HDR.jpeg

Now that I look at that picture, it does have a distinctly Golgotha feel about it...

Today were the last competitive games in Scotland of the 2020/21 season (as far as I know). So I decided to go to Glasgow Women 3-2 Queen's Park Women in SWPL2 at New Tinto Park. Good, open, game. Glasgow Women were the better side, so the win was deserved. 20210704_161544.jpg20210704_161639.jpg20210704_164440.jpg

I've yet to grasp the logic of building open seats rather than something with cover, even if it was only a small enclosure.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure who thought people would prioritise being able to sit over being able to have cover in a ground in Glasgow...

Considerably older, but Maryhill also has uncovered seats.

Other than Wee Dublin end at Morton (which doesn't really count as its wooden benches) struggle to think of another example in Scotland, certainly if we're talking proper structures.

Inverness main stand and Pittodrie south stand wings:

Still outstanding are a QF, both SFs and Final of 2020-21 Aberdeenshire Cup... QF + first SF are this Saturday; other SF next midweek; Final a week on Saturday.

Plus there are still a SF and Final from 2019-20 South Challenge Cup to be completed... SF on Saturday 31st July and Final on Sunday 15th August.

Indeed it will have taken 6 days short of 2 years to complete 2019-20 South Challenge Cup 😃. R1 was played Saturday 24th August 2019.

I realise I should have said LEAGUE games as I knew there were some cups still outstanding, lol.
