I personally think it’s a massive stretch to assume that is what is meant by that statement and is an utterly ridiculous thing to sack someone for, but the Germans tend to be (perhaps understandably) complete shitebags when it comes to anything to do with criticism of Israel.

Understandable?  Maybe.  But surely they should be equally understandable of authoritarianism and repression of speech.  After all these were fundamental tactics for Hitler whilst he was building up to his genocidal actions.

I don't think it's understandable at all.   AntiDs are a very big problem.

This is actually mental. Folk are being utterly hounded/dismissed from jobs for making completely level-headed and reasonable statements about Israel's frankly disgusting treatment of Palestinians.

How long before the UN guy is hounded into a "resignation for family reasons"?

What a shame the Cancel Culture thread's away*. I'm sure the same characters who were so furious about wokeness would've been all over this.

* "things nobody has ever said before" thread for this pish

Said “from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” which some construe to be anti-Semitic. The rationale is that you’re saying Israel shouldn’t exist which in turn means you want all the Jews there killed/expelled.

Decades of racist conditioning to view Palestinians as bloodthirsty savages could easily lead people to believe the phrase means that.

Palestine is the geographic region. Whichever nation states or other political entities exist within it (including Israel), wishing for all the people within that region to have full rights and freedoms is a noble cause.

Find it interesting that people in Scotland have very clear views on what is an isn't said in social media posts and politicians re the conflict, but remain firmly silent when chants and comments on other religions are completely ignored. Substitute Catholic and Protestant for Jewish and Muslim and we'd have been having very different conversations for the last 50 years.

Questions that you would expect to be asked of Israeli spokespersons.

"Out of the over 5,000 individuals killed in Gaza in the past 12 days, how many do you estimate were terrorists?"

That's what I would be asking, but hey, I'm no journalist.

There is no equivalence between sectarian chants in Scotland and the situation in Gaza.

Almost all the German clubs have been overtly pro-Israel, including St. Pauli, shame they can't all get relegated.

St Pauli had to be shamed into saying something semi nice by the international fans and it took a lot of back and forth including a club employee calling people antisemites for simply asking that they acknowledge the plight of all the civilians involved.  antiD tubes.

Babelsberg the only good c***s I've noticed.

That's taken from this by Le Monde: https://archive.ph/lKf4u

I've seen a couple of interviews with Hamas spokesmen where they've denied their organisation instructed the civilian massacres in Israel earlier this month. That's likely true, in terms of Hamas leadership. As Le Monde confirm above, the militant wing al-Qassam seem to have had full autonomy. They're led by an extremely grizzled figure, Mohammed Deif: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_Deif. There's then a question of what exactly al-Qassam had planned to do. The actions of their members varied hugely. Some behaved with restraint and a degree of compassion for the civilians they temporarily held hostage then left unharmed (https://twitter.com/RamAbdu/status/1711649368758005782). That suggests adherence to a strategy. Yet many others instead murdered everyone in sight, including children, psychopaths acting with complete abandon.

No there isn't, but there is in Scotland when people chant and sing songs that other people regard at bigoted. Point is that people in the public eye seem to be able to comment on religious matters in this horrific conflict, but ignore the problems linked to religion in their own back yard. No equivalence in terms of the events themselves.

I don't know who any of these people are, but it appeared on my feed and I thought it was a pretty good example of the two sides of the debate.

One contributor calmly stating facts and advocating the common sense approach, with the other ranting insanely, losing control of his emotions and hurling personal abuse.

Amazing that the shouty guy is ever invited on to anything.

See we've reached another stage.

So is this them now claiming responsibility for bombing the hospital?

Also some computer generated underground network isn't intelligence and with such a large array of under ground tunnels missile launches on hospitals surely doesn't fulfill even the most basic risk assessment.

You might have destroyed one entrance to the tunnels and in doing so have killed hundreds of not thousands of innocent people.

The disconnect between "public opinion" and the stance of politicians has rarely been so stark.

Starmer is obviously shit scared of being badged "Corbyn MKII" - which is hilarious on several levels - that he is merely parroting the lines of Sunak.

Even his Scottish pet Sarwar has stated his stance does not tie with Starmers now...................
