  1. Caught 5 mins of the Radio Clyde phone-in tonight with Jim Delahunt, Roger Hannah and some other no-mark tube pundit. Rangers fan phones in saying the SFA should show a little discretion and a bit of leeway to Rangers in regards to the Mike Ashley case "as any right thinking Scottish football fan knows that the top league needs Rangers". The tube pundit says that if Rangers don't get promoted it could be "catastrophic for the Scottish game". Aye, haud oan and we'll allow the rules to be bent for Rangers to get another couple of mill to spunk while the rest of us get by within our means. I can't believe that folk are still peddling this pish after the armageddon predictions hilariously failed to materialise despite Doncaster doing his utmost to destroy the game.

  3. Because to get the old clubs licence the new club agreed to pay off the football debts of the old club.

  5. Two years ago: "How dare you make us start in the bottom division?!?! We're the same fucking club!!!" Today:"How dare you fine us for EBT's?!?!?! We're a completely different club!!!" The Rangers: the comedy gift that just keeps on giving.

  6. Exactly. The (ex)Old Firm will argue the trickle-down effect - higher TV fees for all, for example - but, as you say, Rangers and Celtic just hoovered it up.

  8. This pish is never going to stop unless they cease to exist or "get back to their rightful place". I hope it's the former. No one could disagree that the traditional hegemony of Rangers (as was) and Celtic perpetually competing for the top two places was a Cash Generator - but hey, guess what? all the cash generated was immediately hoovered up by Rangers and Celtic. And it still didn't stop Rangers 1872 careering off a cliff owing kazillions.

  17. The SPFL is the same league as the SPL with a new company running it, or does that just work with clubs?

  18. It's not because I'm going to claim we've been much cop for quite a while now, but what of it? I really dislike the sacking culture in football - which is very closely related to the general blame culture which too widely permeates society. Neither life nor football are that simple and the narratives we impose on them rarely help us much. I'd be interested to know what the dressing room feel about it and what the general vibe in the club is. Not that I'm saying the players should have the say or anything, but if there are issues there than the board are in a better position to make the call then any of us. There have been times when I've thought managers should probably go on that sort of basis - or at least when information that's come out subsequently has made me think it was probably the right decision. In Murray's case we're probably not a million miles from the point where if they do feel - on that basis - that there needs to be a change I wouldn't necessarily have a big problem with it. But it should be an extreme measure and as far as it's possible to tell from the outside I don't regard the current situation as being that extremity. Lots of managers have good spells and bad spells, times where it doesn't work out for a season or so, times when it does. Because - while there are better managers and worse managers over the long-term - there are a huge amount of unknowables. He might turn it round and do well as he did for his first year or more, or he might not. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'd rather just let him get on with the job. I'm afraid I'm finding the constant discussion of it a bit tiresome (and unhelpful) and I'll bow out and leave it at that. Hardly a ringing endorsement, I know. and I haven't articulated that very well but it'll have to do.

  19. No, do carry on. They can be a pretty rich source of humour, as well as disdain. Just not in the same league as your lot. Just when you think they can't get funnier... "We'll have that money for Telfer, because we're the same club." "OK, send the cheque down to Hampden to help pay your club's fine for cheating then." ETA: WW beat me to it.

  21. Now pay attention, troops, as this may well be the longest post Vicky's actually produced without the wonders of C&P-ing. How can I tell? Ill-informed revisionist nonsense? Of course it is, but that's par for the course, plenty of posters on here guilty of that. They're all being nasty to rangers? Again, a recurring theme. No, what nails it as bennett's work is that this post - on the BRALT, and concerning the travails of his beloved institution - contains four uses of the word "rangers", compared to five uses of the word "celtic". Who is it that it's all about, Vicky?

  22. Bloody hell talk about striking when the clubs in an even mess than usual, right so a wee flashback ... Rangers get fined by LNS' hearing £250k for f**king up the paperwork on some EBT's -- Fair enough so far. LNS says it's an oldco fine nothing to do with the lovely new newco -- -Fair enough so far The SPL accepts this and wants to move on --- Fair enough so far The SPL discover that they have a huge legal bill to pay, celtics fat low level paper gatherer doesn't work for nothing you know --- Fair enough so far The SPL try to make Rangers pay, celtics fat low level paper gatherer sets to work --- fair enough so far. Celtics low level paper gatherer shakes his head and admits it's a no no. -- fair enough celtics low level paper gatherer is told to continue looking through the paper work -- fair enough The SPL changes to SPFL, fat Rod is still looking through the paper work -- fair enough Rumours abound that the SPFL can't get a sponsorship deal and their TV deal is rather shite, as well as severe financial problems. The SPFL board made up of members from celtic, sheep, dundee united, raith rovers, Alloa and Doncaster and topping set to work. an SPL whose members can hardly be called impartial. The Rangers board is basically the Easdales and auld somers (who reportedly hates Rangers) The SPFL board announce they are taking £250k from Rangers newco, despite previosuly stating under their SPL guise that this was an oldco fine. Something is rotten in the state of Scotland. Will the appeal to the SFA be heard by a more impartial group? I'm afraid the money will just have to be paid this time, fat Rod has out manoeuvred us this time.

The £24 million was paid to BDO by Collyer Bristow after BDO raised a legal action against Collyer Bristow in respect of matters arising out of Craig Whyte obtaining the club with the aid of Gary Withey who was the lawyer acting for Whyte while employed by Collyer Bristow. CB reached a settlement of just over £24 million with BDO which is now part of the dividend that will be paid to the creditors. No doubt agreement reached and paid because Withey, Whyte etc were about to be charged with fraud. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-30084838
