We must know some of the same people - utter failure to understand the fact that no council's going to maintain a huge standing fleet of gritters and snowploughs to counter something that's likely to happen once or twice a decade at most, and when it does happen a subsequent failure to grasp the reality that gritting arterial roads are probably going to take priority over dealing with the shitty backwater side street they live on. "We should be getting a rebate on oor council tax..." And who's going to pay that, dumbfuck?6 points

Old Meadowbank, former home of Leith Athletic, c 60 years ago. The stand came from St Bernard's Gymnasium ground. Note the tower on the right of the stand. I took this photo today. Roughly the same position as the top photo. The tower on the right of the blocks of flats is the same tower as in the above pic. Soon to be b*****ding yuppie flats. The reformed Leith Athletic of the East of Scotland League played on the 3G pitch behind the fence in recent years.6 points

You are right. As long as she says "We are leaving the EU" every two minutes nobody is paying attention to whatever else she is saying. It is aimed at people who know the chorus to a song but not a single word of the verse.5 points

Sky poll on influential women. Bet they didn't bargain for Sturgeon and Mhairi Black to boss it over the likes of Queen Liz and Princess Diana.... https://news.sky.com/story/vote-who-is-britains-most-influential-woman-112746484 points

Incredibly, the east has been running 30 game league seasons for some time now. The world hasn't stopped. 5 or 6 utterly pointless league cup sectional games have stopped swallowing up August. Try it - I think you'll prefer proper competition instead of trial matches for a month.4 points

Can I change my vote? Campbell’s performance today, especially when Hearts equalised/were on top and he drove the entire team forward was sensational. Watching him rally those around him when we were up against and lead by example was a real highlight of today for me. After McHugh’s volley of course, personally feel his contribution has been under appreciated so far this year and it’s good to see him get some well deserved praise after today. Also what a signing Main has been- that bit where battered through about 3 Hearts players at the end was incredible, may be a slight exaggeration but I’m pretty sure he actually launched one of them into the East Stand. Full credit to Stephen Robinson, the change around in mentality at the club from his short time in charge has been remarkable. We’ve now won 10 out of his 11 cup games in charge and have dumped Aberdeen, Rangers and Hearts out along the way as well as 3 other top flight sides. Still well in with a shout of top six as well. Incredible turnaround.3 points

9/10......it was a worker's canteen used by the bridge builders, and if memory serves me well it was actually created from reconditioned railway carriages, making it possibly the least-appointed social club anywhere. When you consider that the roof of the 'Turnberry' end was filched from the eponymous railway station, and for years crowds stood on former railway sleepers, Boghead was practically a salvage yard with a football pitch.2 points

It’s been alright for me but harder for my Mrs obviously as I just nod back off when she’s feeding. Still pretty exhausting though. Thanks. Are you going to find out what you’re having? We never knew and the surprise when she came was great. Knowing the sex doesn’t really help anyone IMO, you’re still going to need the same basic stuff if it’s a boy or girl anyway and it’s good to still have the surprise factor when approaching due date. Would definitely recommend not finding out. It was a postpartum haemorrhage my Mrs had, which isn’t uncommon but the amount of blood she lost was well above average. If she hadn’t had such incredible medical attention straight away then she would have bled to death within minutes no doubt. God bless the NHS.2 points

My conscience is clear. He got the referendum which would have been the game changer (look at the election arithmetic from 2010, for example), but then we didn't vote for it. Because, as a country, we're all fucking idiots. This has been proven subsequently on at least two separate occasions since.2 points
