  1. I've been on N/S this week and haven't seen too much news, the Palestinians have already lost the political battle in this country. A Grauniad article today called this Day 6 of the struggle, as if 7 days ago the situation was fair, so it's obvious the right wing media will be far less sympathetic. Hammas' aim as in previous eruptions is to provoke an overreaction from Israel but you have to wonder what multiple of Palestinian deaths would it take to accomplish this especially for the UK media and if this is significantly different from other countries.
  2. Their aim of Hamas eruptions has always been to provoke Israel into a massive overreaction and turn them into a pariah state. Unfortunately for the Palestinians as others have mentioned with Israel being a client state of the USA realpolitik makes this unlikely to be fruitful.
  3. Wait till those froggy bedbugs get to our bedrooms, our brave Brit bedbugs will see them off - Rule Britannia!
  4. Floyd's debut album The Piper At The Gates of Dawn (Chapter 8 (?) of Wind in the Willows) is a stand-out album of British psychedelic music with far trippier lyrics than most of their contemporaries and a full blown freak-out track Interstellar Overdrive. For me the weakest spell in Floyd history was the period immediately after Barrett left when the others were all trying to write Syd-like hit singles, it took about 3/4 years before they finally coalesced on their classic 70s sound on Meddle. Floyd also refer to Barrett/Piper on many of their subsequent albums including The Division Bell.
  5. IIRC the studio version is the only Floyd song Syd Barrett and Dave Gilmour both played on.
  6. Undoubtedly but Gilmour era Floyd were decaff in comparison.
  7. Erm, down here in Staunchland the local bowling club are celebrating with an impromptu karaoke session.
  8. Replacing Speak To Me with a spoken rendition of Free Four from the Obscured By Clouds elpee - interesting! Abandoning the female vocals on The Great Gig In The Sky (Clare Torry) was brave/perverse. Quite liked the Redux version but I imagine Rog will be sticking pins into his Dave Gilmour voodoo doll tonight. Looking forward to WYWH:Redux in 2025 already...
  9. I've come to the conclusion the setters make the last 2/3 questions harder although as all the answers at the end it does seem pointless.
  10. Sturgeon's hubris... The real pisser is Starmer's Labour Party is gonna do nothing for Scotland.
  11. That's not really a surprise, you're not called "the cheeks" for nothing, Sellick fans second team is Sevco & vice versa - FTOF
  12. Aiden McGeady Former Celtic winger on BBC Sportsound I didn't see that coming at all.
  13. I'll counter that by saying if the Tories make In For A Penny their election theme it might just work although I might have to go and live in a hermitage if Noddy Holder endorses them.
  14. Perhaps the two groups could merge and call themselves Suede.
  15. Interesting (IMO) article in today's Grauniad... Fleetwood Mac decided to go their own ways. How do bands know when to quit, and shouldn’t more do so? | Michael Hann | The Guardian ************** My fave group The Beatles were living on borrowed time after the Let It Be sessions but I'm glad they held on for a bit and made Abbey Road my GOAT!
  16. I'm guessing mainly to prove they weren't racist.
  17. My opinion is that The Don would be the best candidate from the Democrats POV - a slicker neo-Trump candidate might make it difficult for them to get all their votes to the, erm, boxes.
  18. @welshbairn Dub Side Of The Moon got that one and also Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heatts Dub Band
  19. When I lived in Paisley I got on the Greenock train from Glasgow in a "tired and emotional" state and woke up up just before we reached the town. It was only when I checked the time I realized I must've slept to Greenock, back to Glasgow and woke up as we entered Paisley for the second time - perhaps unsurprisingly I felt quite refreshed and had another coupla beers on the way home.
  20. I see that ToryUltra Lord Frost is suggesting raising the Pension Age to 75 (IDS suggested this last year) after the recent groans about the Triple Lock from that section of the Tory party - is it the mainstream these days? You've gotta wonder what what will happen when the vote on the review on Pension Age happens - it's been conveniently postponed until after the next GE.
  21. Listened to a few more of the pre-released tracks today, it's kinda like Rog is going for a Tom Waits vibe. I kinda like the new version of Time but then again I like the Wyclef Jean version of WYWH.
