Stanger sent off for throwing his hands up - the state of some of these morons that officiate us 😂

From what I remember, his first booking was when Sibbald grabbed his throat. The second was when a Dundee United player sat down while in possession and won a free kick, Stanger put both Hands up in the air in exasperation and got a second yellow

I haven't read back everyone's comments. I will do so now.

In spite of the result I enjoyed the game today. We moved it about very well and got a glimpse of the patient possession style that Brown is looking to instill.

I thought it was harsh on us after all we had put into the game. I thought we were worthy of a draw but football doesn't work like that.

I thought Paddy had a very good game (that is high praise as it's fair to say I am not his biggest fan).

I'd need to see the two goals we conceded to understand what happened. The first, Bryden loses the ball and McGinty? (just seems to let the forward turn and shoot) and it ends up going under Charlie. The second I couldn't believe it ending up going in but I have no recollection of how it did.

The bringing McGeady on needs to stop. WTF was he doing? The referee blew his whistle for a free kick and then he decides to play on doing some skill moves and loses possession. We gain no advantage but he gets to showboat. Get Amartey on ahead of him please.

Tactically we had it pretty spot on.

Big Dowds is itching for a goal if he gets one he'll start scoring freely again. Still led the line very well.

I thought McKenzie linked the play up well today.

    Murphy's goal was lovely.

Somerset Boab can get in the bin announcing that Dowds was to go off when he wasn't. He's murder.

I felt we deserved more. Our porous defence remains a worry. Play like that and we'll be safe of relegation though. We didn't seem to lose well under Bullen, if you know what I mean! In Brown we trust.

I thought I’d dreamed Dowds going off. About 5 min later I saw him win a header and thought, McHugh looks a lot like Dowds. He lost interest in the half time shootout half way through as well

Wasn't there today but sounds like a lot more positives than negatives, how did the new guys look?

They made as much of an impact as the players that left did. We were under the cosh when they came on and none of them changed much, Sanders coming on for McCallister made us worse because we had Stanger at right back.
All 3 came on at a difficult time so I wouldn’t say any were poor. They had nice touches on isolation but other than that, a bit meh.

  4. We aren’t a million miles away, we shifted a lot of players in the window but we didn’t sign players in problem areas…..yet and the players we brought in weren’t names that make me feel warm and fuzzy.
May gut feeling right now is, we’ll be fine but that could change very quickly

having seen Queens Park last week and Scott Browns changes, I think only one team will go down this year, I think the rest have enough to beat a league one side.

  5. Disappointing to lose that to the goals we conceded. We gave away a lot of possession but still created a lot of chances in the second half.
The energy went out the team once McGeady came on.

With all the supposed stand in right backs we signed, how did we end up with Stanger at right back?

Sibbald got 3 final warnings from the referee so it was a shocking decision to red card Stanger, especially for protesting a free kick that was never a free kick.

  6. Great goal by Murphy followed by Dundee United having about 15 corners, every one of them resulting in a goal kick. apart from a 1 on 1 Albinson never had a save to make.

Socond half, Dundee United passed it round us but again didn’t have many clear cut chances and we had to do a lot of defending while having a handful of chances ourselves. Disappointed not to take all 3 points, or one based on the goals we conceded but can’t have too many complaints based on the pressure we were under for about an hour.

  7. Chalmers and Murphy were both playing narrower for most of the Queens Park game, Chalmers was never given the chance to run at the full back. Almost every pass to him ended up in an immediate pass to a team mate. Once Bryden came on, he was pushed wider and got some decent runs and crosses. They were a man down as well though.

Dowds hasn’t had much service and is playing more of a McKenzie role now, he’s moving out wide and coming deep.

Possibly more that teams are getting wise to us and we need to change our set-up

    Both are winnable.

I'd be very disappointed if we did not at least attempt to win both.

Aye, but if we don’t win them, I don’t think anyone would be concerned, if we lost to Arbroath for instance, that would have been concerning.

I think we will be closer to Dundee United than we have been this season and the Rangers game, you never know(well, you do but there is always hope)

Would be surprised if we didn’t see another couple of bodies through the door today

Unless they have been training with us all week, they probably wouldn’t start anyway. Not sure on the registration requirements for the Scottish cup as well. Both games are kind of free hits we aren’t expected to win so they might decide to save 2 weeks wages and get the Rangers money in the bank before getting players in later in the month.

  10. We will have another rebuild in the summer, McCallister, Reading, McGinty, Musonda and Murdoch are all out of contract. Chalmers, Dowds and the three new guys are on loan. That is the guts of a squad all potentially out the door. With our current batting average of about 20% on signing decent players over dross, it doesn’t bode well.

A summer window can sell season tickets and build expectations. Doing good business early and setting people’s minds at rest rather than signing half a dozen English non league players and then raking bins in September.

  11. We have shifted Rose off and brought in another forward, I doubt we would then go out and sign either May or McNulty. Kelly is on the fringes of the Livingston squad but he likes a loan when he's not getting a game. I think it's unlikely, Livi clearly need a freshen up but unless they can get a loan from another premier club, I don't see Kelly going out.

The boy from Aberdeen I would say is far more likely.

Did you miss the part where Raith were bought by a new consortium and their finances are measurably better than last season.

Coupled with a far better quality of signing this season compared to last and you’d be hard pushed to argue they don’t have a better budget this season.

    Define measurably.

Who did moneybags Raith sign that is well outwith our budget?

  13. Just now, D'Jaffo said:

But they don’t. Teams in this league are notorious for signing absolute dross. Unless you’re Dundee United or Raith and have a bit of pull (one way or another) then you’re stuck with the same merry go round of players or you try something different.

Raith Rovers last season vs Raith Rovers this season.

The players with a reputation also cost more and we are up against more competition to sign them.

January is a month that frustrates all as you very rarely get exactly what you need. The big question marks for me is have we brought in players that are better than what we have. I’m confident with Sanders. I think McHugh is very different from Young and I think with Willoughby it’ll all come down to how he starts. He clearly need a bit of confidence so a good start on Saturday could get him up and running. All we’re looking for is enough to tide us over to the summer. I’m confident enough that the change in manager will play a far bigger role in that than who we sign.

Other teams round about us manage just fine. we have to be different. We pay enough to bring players up from England to sit on our bench for 6-10 months before paying them off.

Give these lads a chance - we don't know if they'll be any good or not. It's great signing a big name like Chris Maguire but we all know how that turned out, don't we?

Its not the players folk are fucked off about, its the process, of the players brought in during the summer, Rose, Ahui, Senga, Young, Pendlebury and Amartey have all either been poor or left, Young only played well in the last 5 games.

The players with a reputation in Scotland have been far and above the players sourced.
