  1. One area where the BBC excels and where i can't see "the market" being any use is in children's programmes. Wihout cbbc and cbeebies there will be nothing but badly drawn 100mph cartoons with lots of manic shouting. There is an argument that most public service stuff would be delivered by commercial channels. There's even some decent wildlife stuff on advert channels now. The bbc used to do global news really well and the world service was a good soft power instrument. The bbc itself has slowly killed its own reputation here. But i think there is a case that a proper public service provider could do news and current affairs in a way that commercials won't.
  2. Imagine a world where the cause of WWII in Europe was generally accepted to be Britain's aggression against Germany. And every time Britain was in the papers Germany cried about Britain invading. That's the the Scottish papers on Rangers v Aberdeen.
  3. Did you miss the threads tannadice, tynecastle, Easter Road and ibrox?
  4. The argument is that the BBC provides a public service. Netflix doesn't. I don't think the current BBC does the public service bit very well and does probably compete too much with commercial channels. But that doesn't change the theory. If the license fee is going then i'd prefer funding to be from general tax. I don't think the licence fee has really protected the beeb from government interference, which is the main argument against tax funding.
  5. I thought i'd misread the rules. There are extra requirements on pitch dimensions and silver level floodlights but the Championship has the same requirements as the premier so shouldn't be an issue.
  6. You might even be transformed into a fetching Pompeii style statue. Not by a tsunami, obviously.
  7. I think people underestimate the risks. Tsunamis and pyroclastic flows both look relatively harmless from a distance. Once you've clocked the speed and destructiveness it's probably too late.
  8. Why would they come to us or the embra cheeks if we offer two thirds? Makes no sense.
  9. I'm sure we don't have the whole management team doing ten hour days solely trying to sign Clarke. Just because not much else is reported doesn't nean nothing else is happening. Maybe it's not, but i doubt it's because we're trying to sign a goalie.
  10. I once ran up a peak that was in the Guiness book of Records
  11. It's generally underappreciated amongst the British public that Diana was a stupid gold-digging whore.
  12. ... Is what you were wishing you said, as your sausages went cold while you separated the egg yolk () and cleaned the mushrooms.
  13. No one's life will be worse if a sweetie isn't called "midget gems". At least one person will be happier, maybe more who weren't so vocal will be too. Maybe some twats on the twitter will say mean things for a day or two then get bored and go back to threatening to rape feminists. That sort of arseholery shouldn't put people off trying to improve things.
  14. "forced by the EU" is excellent torying. Agreed voluntarily to OECD global minimum proposals in fact.
  15. I don't follow the English "footy". Was Redknapp boning Mrs Kranjcar?
  16. Can you explain how Ireland is a tax haven please?
  17. Political interference? Without making a donation? Unacceptable.
  18. Or to put it another way, you have to go back 30 years to find a player that preferred hibs.
  19. YNRA took me a while. My favourite guess was "You Never Read Anything"
