If this 'mini league' in the middle of July was so wonderful then Celtic would be banging Doncaster's door down to be a part of it rather than strolling nonchalantly about Japan gently building up their players fitness .
Depriving the lower placed clubs a proper pre-season with a chance to introduce young players in the relaxed environment of pre-season friendlies and instead forcing them into the nonsense of competitive football in the middle of July certainly doesn't help. It's almost as though this new sectional League Cup format was deliberately designed to hand the Old Firm even more of an advantage..
Not so much a remake more of a sequel but 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' is superior to 'The Likely Lads'. Indeed it's superior to the vast majority of British sitcoms.
Same feeling about competitive club football in the middle of July as I do about Christmas decorations in the middle of November. Too early. Utter nonsense. Start mid August, end mid May. Simple.
A guy who is neither interesting enough or talented enough to merit his own unique nickname but instead steals one from a Celtic '60's legend of the same name is doomed from the start. And being more famous for getting his cock out on national TV than anything he's done on a football pitch or dugout isn't a great recommendation either.
In honour of Martin Stephenson & the Daintees I'm off on a Bus To Blackpool tomorrow ( I did consider a boat to Bolivia but well above my pay grade). Weather looks rotten for the week but once aboard that Starr Gate tram who honestly cares.
As a guy who is seriously into music Cosgrove probably just sees Led Zeppelin as tedious old frauds who pass over the work of black musicians as their own....see 'Whole Lotta Love'. As someone who is always banging on about 'authentic' black inner city soul music it would be remiss of him to think otherwise.
Regardless, he is bored of playing for Celtic. As any properly ambitious player from overseas who hasn't had to endure from infancy the lie of how 'massive' Celtic are would be after a year or two of predictably beating the same 11 teams again and again and again. And that isn't a criticism of Celtic. Nothing they can do about it and not their fault. Just the way things are for a club that actually aren't very 'massive' at all.
That's because there weren't any. In fact I would struggle to name one outstanding Scottish international goalkeeper performance in my lifetime. All I remember are the disasters.... Stewart Kennedy at Wembley...Alan Rough on occasions too numerous to mention......Jim 'Jumpin' Jack Flap' Leighton....Craig Gordon's probably been the best but not a high bar.
.
I use to hate that... Whatever Archie Macpherson's qualities may be, one thing's for sure, commentating on football matches isn't one of them. Montford was slightly better but nothing matched a David Coleman commentary....."Jordan....one-nil !" .... "And Clemence day is complete" .......
First went to Hampden in 1969. Two League Cup Finals v Hibs &. St Johnstone & Scottish Cup Semi v Morton. Hard to convey now how vast Hampden was back then. And how decayed.
