  1. Aye, nothing wrong with having a bit of physicality about a team and we combine it well with flair and good fitba. It’s when it’s used as a lazy pejorative that’s when it bugs me. As if being a part-time diddy team mixing it with the big boys means that your game is all about sticking the boot in and lumping it up the park.
  2. It’s just terrible, tired commentary/punditry/journalism all round. Just a constant stream of embarrassing cliches and inaccuracies. If it’s not the wind then it’s the “tight pitch” which it isn’t, bobbly surface which it most definitely isn’t, big physical team etc etc. I’ve been to 3 home games this season so far and the weather has been fantastic for them all. But we’ll get one game in the middle of winter when the wind’s blowing and it gets used to reinforce the stereotype.
  3. No worries. Just get this type of crap from opposition fans/management all the time. As if the the rest of Scotland is a benign, tropical paradise with no more than a gentle breeze. In my 40+ years of going to gayfield, I can think of no more than a handful (maybe two handfuls) of times when the games have been abandoned or massively affected by the wind. It’s also not a big advantage to Arbroath as we train in Perth, some of our players will have no more experience of playing in high winds than a player from any other team.
  4. Online ticket sales only for Arbroath home games now. Details are normally posted early/mid week.
  5. If this is a dream I'm going to be fecking raging when I wake up.
  6. I would back my 75 year old mother-in-law in a one-on-one over Hilson.... Actually, she needs a knee replacement so it's probably 50/50.
  7. I was at Elgin’s first home game of the season v Stranraer (who I was very impressed by, amazed to see them towards the foot of the table) and if anyone still really thinks Hester is a championship level player then they need their bumps felt. Not saying he’s not a decent player but you would need to be an absolute standout week-in, week-out in league 2 and he isn’t. He’s at his level.
  8. I don’t follow this thread enough to know if you’re being serious, taking the piss or being tongue in cheek?
  9. I know this is minute in the grand scheme of things and compared to the other examples on this thread but this type of thing really boils my piss. The sport on Radio 2 news this morning - England ladies start their World Cup qualification campaign tonight against North Macedonia - end of report. Would it really have been difficult to mention that the other three nations which make up this wonderful union of equals are also playing tonight? It’s like they’ve given up even trying to pretend to be the “B”BC.
  10. On anther note, the corporates looked to be having a great time today, no doubt the bar did a roaring trade.
  11. I started going to Gayfield in the very late 70s so missed out on the better sides of the past but comparing where we are now, on and off the pitch, to even 15 years ago is unreal. When I think of some of the players/teams/managers in my time of supporting the club it’s really amazing to see where we are now. And to go from one pie stall, a virtually empty club shop, no corporate to speak of, the choice of pissing in the worst toilets this side of Trainspotting or behind the enclosure, to the off-field facilities and merchandise etc we have now is as impressive as the differences on the pitch.
  12. Without doubt. What I meant was just his sheer size and strength is difficult to cope with whether he’s challenging for the ball or the ball’s at his feet.
  13. I thought Accies looked ok for the first half hour without actually threatening. they passed it around nicely at the back and in midfield but then seemed to run out of ideas and resort to aimless long punts once they got beyond the half way line. The no 6 looked decent and also Sideshow Bob at right back. Even though it was a cagey first half we were still on top and Stewart’s composed finish rounded off the half well. The second half was one-way traffic and could have been more. Can’t wait to see Low’s free kick again. There seems to be a trend at home this season with keeping it tight for the first half then upping the tempo and intensity in the second half. The fitness of guys like Low, McKenna and Stewart etc is unreal and Accies' defence (see also Dunfermline and Partick before them) just couldn’t cope with the pace and accuracy of our attack, and with Nouble’s sheer physicality. Everyone in maroon played well today but Scott Stewart was incredible, as good an individual performance as you’ll see. Would have liked to have seen Bobby get 15 minutes at the end as watching him running at a depleted and tired defence would have been fun to see. Another great day to be a Lichtie.
  14. I totally disagree agree with this. It's a worthless cup played against an opposition that's only there to try and get the Old firm B teams into the league. We need players match fit for when we get injuries/suspensions etc and if your not going to play them in a game like this that means nothing when will they get a game? This competition got the respect is deserved which is nothing. Yeah, on reflection you and Simon are right. For this particular competition it was probably the correct approach, just don’t like to see us lose, particularly to teams that we should be beating comfortably.
  15. I don't think you can approach games with fear of injury, it's just part of the game - play the strongest lineup available and try to win every game, no matter who you're playing. It's also still very early in the season and every minute of game time is crucial as far as fitness and match sharpness goes. IMO we should have started with our strongest team today, built a lead then swapped out for the fringe players if/when we'd reached that point. What did today's approach achieve apart from a confidence knocking defeat against a bunch of teenagers.... and definitive proof that we are f*cking hopeless at penalties? A nice comfortable win would have set us up perfectly for next week, and would have kept the good run and feel-good factor going.
  16. I'm sure there will be a fair few who will offer to drive him to Links Park for you. Personally I think he's a good player and has shown flashes but perhaps the Championship is just slightly above his level. Definitely good enough for League 1 and seems like a decent guy.
  17. Really poor. I know it's a diddy cup but the current Arbroath team shouldn't ever be losing to kids, even Albion Rovers scudded St Mirren B today. Thought we started with the totally wrong attitude and lineup - looked like we thought we would just turn up and stroll it with fringe players and didn't really show enough (any) urgency until we went 1-0 down. They then put 11 behind the ball and it was almost impossible to break them down, nice finish by Henderson at the end though. Thought it was never coming after hitting the woodwork 4 times. Knew we would lose the penalties, you could tell by the body language of the players. Their keeper played well and you just knew he was going to save a couple. I was impressed with Henderson, Low (as usual), Clarke and Paterson but we look totally toothless without Nouble and McKenna on at the same time. Unfortunately Donnelly and Hilson in particular missed a big chance to step up. This would have been a perfect game for Hilson to demand the ball and run at their defence, but he was almost invisible. Dowds looks slow and unfit. Ach well, we can concentrate on the league now I suppose. Just disappointing when we should really have won comfortably today against a very average looking side, by far the weakest side we've played this season so far.
  18. Says the guy who gets a boner for the EPL and would rather go shopping than watch his team.
  19. Exactly. We all know he can score. Seemed crazy to me that he was used in a deeper role when we’ve been desperate for goals the last two seasons and we seemed to have a possible solution already at the club. Looks like a great partnership with Nouble.
  20. The way we're playing Nicky Low and Bobby Linn will be 7'2" by then.
  21. Oh aye, I'm sure he read my post and though "now there's an idea".
  22. Don't want to blow my own trumpet but I suggested using McKenna in a more attacking role a few weeks ago. He definitely has an eye for goal and unbelievable energy.
  23. This needs nipped in the bud pronto. Such a good feeling around the club, on and off the field at the moment but the last thing we need is the over officious acts of the stewards discouraging away fans from attending or any fans, home or away trying to create a bit of an atmosphere. Jesus a wee lad in the home end tossed a folded up foil pie tray about 2 feet on to the edge of the pitch and the look he got from the wee wifey steward you would have thought he’d chucked a flare, not exactly how to encourage young fans.
