  1. Yes I understand that but it was £180 the season before which was in theory for 18 games. As I said, an increase was inevitable for a multitude of reasons but psychologically it may put a few people off to see such a large increase even though the unit cost per game is only marginally more.
  2. That’s some hike in season ticket prices. I do understand the many factors why, and we were probably too cheap before, but over 25% increase for an adult ticket is a very big jump. It won’t stop me buying one but it may stop others.
  3. On reflection I may have been unfair saying Henderson has only been brought in as cover. Even though he has been, mostly, very good for us (and, of course, won the league at Starks Park), I do think Hamilton is our slightly weak link in the back 4. I think he’s guilty at times of backing off too much and allowing the opposition winger to drive into the box or to get an easy cross in, also his positional sense as mentioned above. A young, hungry player competing for his position can only be a good thing.
  4. I would say there’s close to zero chance that he’ll be in the first team initially. And literally zero chance he’ll be CB as we have one of the best CB pairings in the championship in Little and O’Brien, in fact we have one of the best entire defences in the championship. I would imagine that he’s been brought in as cover at CB and particularly for Hamilton at LB as we don’t really have a quality backup in that position. sounds like a good, young player though so Campbell possibly looking at the future.
  5. True to an extent but he definitely got the best out of the players he inherited.
  6. Seriously, look at some of our results from season 2010-11 and 2011-12. I think we were top, or near top scorers in Scotland that first season. We had two strikers on +20 too. ETA - we conceded a fair few too
  7. I think Sheerin will do well for you guys. His stint with us ultimately led to relegation back down to league 2 but I think he had a few off-field issues in the end which caused him to lose focus. In his first season he took us to our first ever title, the following season he very nearly got us promotion to the Championship. Both seasons playing exciting, attacking fitba with loads of goals and big wins. I think with being full-time and having a much bigger budget than when he had with us plus his 7 years experience at Aberdeen should see him be a success.
  8. Agree 100%. I think football at all levels, not just our championship, needs fans. It’s a sport that relies as much on the off-field dynamics as what happens on the park to provide atmosphere, passion, tribalism etc. As they say - Football without fans is nothing.
  9. What a ludicrous exaggeration. Scottish championship players are the equivalent of someone in a band who can’t play an instrument? Personally I think a decent professional/semi-professional footballer in Scotland, is closer in footballing ability to Lionel Messi than you or I am to them. To continue the musical theme: perhaps the Scottish championship is like punk - pretty basic, at times awful but full of energy and mostly great fun. But still a valid form of music. In the grand scheme of things I do think that entertainment trumps all. We have to accept the limitations of our game, and that we can be happy with it and enjoy it without obsessing over wether Big Davie at centre half is as technically proficient as some boy who plays for Barcefuckinglona.
  10. As such a connoisseur of the beautiful game, I trust you consume your other forms of entertainment in a similar manner? I once listened to a Ramones song and thoroughly enjoyed it, imagine my horror when I discovered that they only used two chords! Couldn’t wait to get back to my Sibelius.
  11. Fair enough. Personally, I don’t think games/leagues need much quality to be very entertaining. Football is entertainment after all. Some of the most awful spectacles I’ve ever watched have been EPL, La Liga, Serie A games. Granted, they are full of this magical “quality” but full of awful entertainment - watching, low risk, formulaic fitba played by robotic multi-millionaires passing the ball sideways for 90 minutes can be grim viewing. I watched the FA cup final the other week, followed by the Dundee v Raith playoff. There was more entertainment and excitement in the first 5 minutes of the playoff than in the entire 90 of the FA cup. Perhaps we should all give up and start watching the EPL like arseholes all over the world.
  12. Competitive doesn’t mean it’s a poor standard. On the contrary, I think this season past was brilliant in the fact that it was so close. Literally anyone could beat anyone and there was loads at stake right to the wire. It would be brilliant if all leagues were like that every season.
  13. 100% - I think the league will look a lot different in 10 years time. If we’re going to continue with the pyramid, which we will obviously, then I think what we need is automatic 2 up (winners of LL and HL), 2 down (9th and 10th) gives teams more chance of going down but also a much more achievable route back up.
  14. I’m an Arbroath fan and am totally embarrassed by your post. Do you not remember that we were 2 or 3 games away from potentially the same fate just a few short years ago? This could happen to any part-time team in the league and possibly even some full-time ones too. We could easily be in that position within 5 years. Brechin and Cowdenbeath before them were recent championship sides playing way above us, yet a 3 or 4 bad years and look what can happen... and believe me, I’ve been a fan long enough to have seen us have way more than 3 or 4 bad seasons in a row in the past. Personally I’m very sad to see Brechin go down and really hope they bounce back soon.
  15. Have a fondness for Brechin as my dad’s family are from the town and my parents now live there. Also my grandad was groundsman at City for a few years in the ‘80’s and 90’s. Love Glebe Park, have seen Arbroath play there many times and I was envious of their success for many years. ‘Mon City.
  16. Just have a look at our results from his first two seasons in charge. Some very high scoring wins. All out attack. He was also a brilliant player for us. Lost his way a little in his final season but I think some of that was down to off the field issues. Overall, a fantastic manager and player for Arbroath, don’t think you’ll find many /any who have a bad word to say about him. He would certainly have you playing an exciting brand of attacking football.
  17. Yeah would rather Dundee stayed down for selfish reasons.
  18. Weird lack of urgency from Edinburgh. Should have been much more direct after taking the lead.
  19. As an Arbroath fan, I’m astonished that Dumbarton made no effort at all to use the wind to their advantage, looked a deliberate tactic to me - keep it tight, protect the two goal lead and don’t lose a goal. With a wind like that in your favour you must have a pop when you can. A quick goal for Edinburgh and they become favourites to me.
  20. Yeah, I’m a neutral too, I like watching games where I have no emotional attachment. I’d hoped for a good old fashioned, up and at them game but the ref is ruining it by blowing for very contact. The players have also cottoned on to this and are going down at every opportunity knowing they’ll get a free kick.
  21. Could be an interesting second half. With this wind Edinburgh need to shoot on site. Terrible game so far ruined by the wind, occasion and ref.
  22. Has it subsided since it was built or was it genuinely built like that? I’ve noticed it before but it looks even more pronounced now.
  23. Why didn’t they make the pitch flat when they built The Rock? That slope in the corner to the right of the stand is ridiculous for a new (ish) build.
