Of course not but it helps immensely as it quite literally goes with the territory. There are few exceptions to the rule currently Celtic and Scotlands Keiran Tierney who is naturally left footed but is also an outstanding right-back, but then again he's valued in the £M's and even at that is a better Leftback than right-back. There's nobody we're looking at capable of using their weaker foot for anything other than standing on it. The main requirement for a full back when not defending is to get forward and get a decent ball over, if he's not confident of doing that then he will cut inside and use his stronger foot, we watched Joe Cardle do this for an entire season it was boringly predictable. We also spent the majority of one season watching two left footed central defenders (Hill & Ellis) looking decidedly uncomfortable (More so strangely I thought than we ever have with 2 right footed centre halves) it's all about the balance of the team. Once or twice last season we had our team captain and nominated right-back Jason Thomson playing in the Left-back role, it was neither effective nor pretty. Sadly we don't pay fortunes for international class defenders who are equally adept with either foot so It's really quite simple at our level, if you bring in a player to play on the left hand side of the park, then you've a far better chance of them keeping the ball in play if they are NOT right footed Edited June 19, 2017 by Scottydog

Ebanda's Handyman Services
Old fashioned perhaps but I think that anyone who is happy to be known as a professional footballer should be confident of swinging in a decent cross with either foot.
Ludo*1
Are we all just looking through ex-Dundee players circa 2010-11? That was the lad with the stupid haircut with the big fringe. Now at Peterhead. Barry Smith's first season with us was spent trying to recreate the Dundee side of 97/98 so at least he's moved on.

Your user name/photo should act as a stark reminder of what some people class as a professional footballer!

Was it my post on the Arbroath thread not long ago? He isn't an out an out fullback but he's been very good and steady there when he's been played there. Alan Moore played him in both full back positions for a prolonged period of time and he done really well. He really is a central midfield player though.

As it once was yes but you're definitely showing your age there, we've not had too many people of that ability for some time. In fact a year or so ago at a RR Down south night for the team of 77-78 Billy Brown remarked upon much about the same, "People talk about a decent 1st touch on a player? In my day it was a prerequisite to get a game in the juniors never mind with the seniors"
Beastie Russell
Back in the day, Iain McLeod did well at left back, considering he was a right footed central midfielder.

L. Brilliant
Iain McLeod played most of 1992-93 at left back and we won the title by 38 points (approx) - i didn't know he was right footed though! Ian Thompson playes lb when he was suspended or injured i think?

baillieinleeds
Have we enough players for 5-a-side? Maybe a smaller squad will work better than the massive steaming pile of shite we had last season. My only worry is we're an injury prone football club.
Raithie
Completely and utterly irrelevant post but I'm highly bored with the lack of signings/games/general Roversness. If someone was to ask you who you support, what would you say? For me growing up the club have always been known as the Rovers. "going to the Rovers on Saturday, any Rovers news, are the Rovers still shite?" so when I hear people call us 'Raith' I find it rather, weird. I don't think I've ever, when asked, said "I'm going o the Raith game on Saturday". It got me thinking about a time I got speaking to someone at a gig who was from down Dumfries way. He asked me initially where in Fife I was from then the convo moved onto football (the guy in question was a QOS fan) and asked who I supported. I had assumed, when I said previously I was from Kirkcaldy that the seed was planted, so when I said 'the Rovers' he didn't twig who I meant. Not until I said Raith Rovers did he realise who the Rovers were. I found it interesting. I am bored as f**k.
