Scary Bear
http://www.raithrovers.net/31375/ross-callachan.htm Of course a transfer of this nature can only take place if the Manager is confident that he has sufficient replacement to cover the loss of such an important player. That cover is in place. See, this above is the kind of bullshit that undermines confidence in the board. We know there isn't sufficient cover. Every arsehole and his dug can see we have two fit and ready centre mids at the club now. Well, there's enough immediate cover in Matthews. If him and Robertson get injuries the wheels fall off our promotion choo choo and we crash and burn. However unlikely, even Ayr fucking-trophy-dodging United may win the league instead of us. That would be so Rovers.

Box to box player with a lot of energy and drive. Not so hot on the shooting but keeps the ball moving quickly and cleverly. Aye, he was part of a relegated team last year but at times he was a one man midfield alongside three other utter shitehawks. Before that he was a standout in the McKinnon team that got to the promotion play offs. Not sure how quickly he'll adapt, or even if he can to premiership football but he's more than proven at championship level.

We'll put out another 'can't stand in his way' statement and take £20k, some new tracksuits and a pre-season friendly with Dundee/Hibs/Killie.

That would be so Rovers. 'Cover' shouldn't necessarily mean being able to fill 11 jerseys on the day though. We will always need at least two centre mids. We have exactly two who are fit. Davidson, even if he weren't needed for defence, is long since past being able to play as a centre mid, and Berry may come of age, but is no where near ready. So now we're in the same situation as Murray's team in 13/14 where if either Robertson or Matthews (who in many repsects could go onto better things than even Cal has) is suspended, injured or off form, then we have a fucking big hole in the middle of the park that we can't by any stretch of the imagination, hope to cover. Scary Bear
He was highly rated player wise too. Shame he's went to Hearts but he does support them and it's career progression. I thought Hearts might have thrown in a loan as part of the deal. Oh...so we're not even getting the no-mark loan signing? We really need to avoid injuries this season.

Scary Bear
There are only so many ways of implying that we are a selling club, I'm surprised this hasn't occurred to someone. I think it's more that we just take whatever cash the buying club offers. Fans see other clubs like Accies, Falkirk and Livi getting good money for their youth players, then compare our own transfer dealings to those clubs. It isn't a favourable comparison. We seem to get bent over every time.
Scary Bear
You wonder if we have developed the soft-touch reputation of a club that never stands in a player's way, so offer them buttons and they'll accept. That's maybe just the game in Scotland of late and I suppose the English clubs must not be interested in our youths.
Michael W
The fact that the club won't disclose the fee says it all - sold for buttons, which is what we all feared would happen when we were relegated.
foreverarover
I feel Matthews is a very good passer of the ball playing in front of the back four. A completely different type of a player. I hope they don't to put him in the place of Callachan and expect the same from him.
Scary Bear
Wonder if we have managed to get a sell on clause? If he does well for Hearts that would be the best way of getting some money in.
Hank Scorpio
Just me who took the "that cover is in place" line as code for we're signing someone of that ilk today?

We all know and accept we are a selling club, but that statement doesn't imply that. The club could have said the offer was too good for the club to turn down financially or something similar, and there would have been much more sympathy. That statement implies that Callachan has left due to the opportunity it gives him, not because of financial benefit for the club. RRFC aren't there to further young players careers. Usually if that happens then it means the club sees benefit, but not always. Edited August 31, 2017 by CALDERON
steakngravy
What happened to John Sim's statement that we don't need to sell, was that just pulling the wool over the supporters eyes. Or was this desicion taken without consultation.
