Turns out that a Polish guy had asked him in the pub last week "why do you celebrate Guy Fawkes night" and was told about the whole story at which point he said "why would a Scotsman celebrate that if they tried to kill a Scotsman?". Something was then said about him being an SNP supporter which later became "he's a nationalist" which later became "he only likes Scottish people" and so on.
