Unpopular opinions.

I thought DAFC had a good point, that men are feeling increasingly pressured about their appearance, and shouldn't be.

He also had a shit point, that women have it easier.

Personally, as a fat b*****d currently losing weight I find the availability of trousers is more of a deciding factor than what other folk think.

Something weird I've noticed - as waist sizes go up, leg length seems to go down. Most shops seem to sell up to 34" long trews, but only in smaller waist sizes. You can usually dig out some with a 40"-42" waist, but almost always with a small leg length. Presumably they only stock what sells, so I guess tall people are more likely to be skinny, and shortarses chunky?

They also don't make tops longer in bigger sizes either. They tend to be roughly the same length along the line, only you'll find some that are wider than they are long. What's that all about? It's the same for women's tops too. The majority of fat lassies would surely be happier being able to cover their gut.

Yes, I know. Mumsnet for this pish.

And if someone has an unpopular opinion that makes them a c**t then they should be called a c**t. Different if someone is just clearly for the watching by not liking mushrooms or something, but posting an opinion that makes you a c**t on this thread doesn’t absolve you.

Mushrooms are vile.

I agree in part that there has been a growing acceptance of very obese woman posing half naked and being body proud. And while fat shaming it wrong promoting health affecting obesity as positive sits uncomfortably with me. And I’m not skinny by any means.

It is like that whole Beth Ditto thing about 10 years ago. I am overweight, I understand that & would like to change it but at the same time I am fit, current lurgy aside, & by all accounts I am not hideous in the way I look. Actively promoting gross obesity as beauty is another matter, people canbe obese yet still remain attractive features but the underlying health issues of carrying that excess weight will remain. I hope I have put my point across clearly here, if I haven't then apologies for being unclear. I suppose that it all comes down to the old maxim that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, yet you can't argue with the increased rate of early mortality that obesity all but guarantees.

Maybe most chubbies fix their belt under their beer bellies so need a shorter length? Unlike Americans..

Really not getting this "promoting obesity" thing. I'd have thought it's more about selling products to women by using models that look more like their body type.

I get the impression that some folk are so used to fatties being an object of ridicule or hatred, that the simple act of being treated with equality somehow seems like decadent extravagance.

So many questions about that picture.

Edit: is that an official Partick hijab in the back?

BBW- big burqa women

What is this BBW thing?  Like, feel free to boast about being a big beautiful woman, but don't expect that by saying you're beautiful that you'll somehow convince anybody that this must be true.

It's a bit like Celtic fans telling everybody they're the best fans in the world despite everybody who is not a Celtic fan thinking this is a daft claim as they let off their pyros and sing IRA songs.

PS Don't mind a wee bit of extra timber myself.

I think DAFC's point is that obese women saying "it's okay to be large, overweight and a burden on society" is actually wrong and people should be encouraged to live healthier lives, not be fat slappers.
This is what I'm trying to say.
Btw I've never abused any woman in public ever for the way they looked or their weight but I have experienced overweight women abuse me for looking a certain way.
One was very recently and lead to this post. I wasnt even trying to impress them or chat them up etc. It was a bit uncalled for and as per usual I'm very sensitive due to work situation. Self esteem issues I guess. If you think this makes me a fanny then that's ok.
All I know is my life has been a total mess for years and I've been externalising it by being perma raging about stuff on forums.
I did see the help that da got on here and opened up about work but got zero help and told it was my fault or inventing it.
I think it's a good idea to stop posting on here for all concerned.

Can't help but feel sad about that. That's a phrase that screams, "we've been called ugly all our lives, but you're beautiful to me". Anyone actively using that term to describe themselves is using it as a public shield.

Anyway, it's a term invented by men looking to shag fat women in classified ads, and later looking for chubby porn, so you can't blame women for adopting it for their own purposes, as many other marginalised groups have done.

I’m sorry you are having a bad time of it DAFC. I hope it gets better.

You are making fairly sweeping statements about women based on one incident though. I can absolutely guarantee you that most women will have experienced more comments and judgement than men about their appearance and weight. It’s right to say that men are more judged on their appearance now than years ago but it isn’t a zero sum game. Chances are the person who made the comment to you was perhaps going through something similar to you and was feeling bad and took it out on you.

Whoever she was, her weight doesn't come into it, she is just an absolute cow. You cannot go hating everyone else because she is a bitch as you will f**k yourself up too in the process. You need to leave that job, no matter how easy it is, or how decent the wage is, it is screwing you up. Do not stop posting on here, as apart from the occasional troll, we are a brutally honest yet decent bunch so you need our perspective, but for the love of God get way from that place for the sake of your sanity.

I think you should pay something similar - without this thread's issue - in the depression thread.

You'll get some very good advice there, and talking about your problems is always the answer. Do not stop posting. That is not the answer.

Plenty of overweight people I know personally have much healthier diets than myself but given the quirks of our metabolisms that allows me to remain a normal weight while eating like a hog I will relentlessly berate them for not being ashamed of their body.

Just to be clear, being a Tory does make you an arsehole.

I know, we have already been through this. My voting intentions this time round have actually changed, due to a conversation with the current MP in this constituency. His stance on leaving the EU has been quite spectacularly misrepresented & now I have listened to his explanation I will be voting for him instead due to his excellent track record on doing his best to help his local area.

What party is this?
