Long Suffering Bairn
Might as well wear a criminal strip if we continue to play criminal football. Edited April 21, 2022 by Long Suffering Bairn
Guest Ecosse83
Good luck to Dowds, I think he will struggle with another full time team but don’t blame him getting away from us! Its a sad day when Anton bloody Dowds is looked upon as being too good for us, it shows us how far we have fallen! Hughsie
Good luck to Dowds but if Thistle are aiming to push for promotion next season then I wouldn’t say he’s of the level required to be completely honest.

Sometimes it doesn’t work out for players unfortunately we’ve consistently found an endless stream of charlatans for the past few seasons.

We'd have been better off looking at starting up a b team that would include players from the under 18s and those out of favour . You need 7 different age groups to progress to the next level of the CAS programme. That was why the U12 team was created - you can't play competitive fixtures until the teams are formed and you're accepted into the next level - chicken and egg situation. A B Team/U20s was operating as well and played a number of games including 2 victories over the Shire and a win over East Fife 20's. The best of the U18's and players like Weekes, Lemon and Omperon played. Fergus led it with the support of Sheerin. Further age groups would have been added to fulfill the CAS criteria. This was with the full knowledge of the Board and Chief Exec. Fergus spoke to Falkirk TV about it in November 2021!! Hardly "rogue" behaviour. The new Board looked at how much that would cost and pulled the rug. Then the Chief Exec gave the car crash interview in the Herald. The 3 promising U18s mentioned (that have been training with the first team) have basically been told there's no pathway and to leave the club. Other U16 and U18 players told BY PHONE they were being released and not to come back. Chief Exec and Directors will have you believe they have a plan - they don't. Poor practice, arrogance, key people out their depth and mass resignations at the club don't give confidence of a bright future under the current regime.

We should just bin this academy. Unless we are in the top tier, it is simply pissing money away.
Springfield
Your post suggests some degree of concern/worry (to say the least) of the new set up. Havent a clue about the youth set up, but have heard a similar report. Be good to hear from anyone else who’s also been involved.

Adding an U20s to the current youth set up would not cost much and provide a pathway to the first team for young players on relatively low wages. There's actually an economic argument FOR a youth set up.

Personally I agree that for now resources have to be focused on the first team- 2 age groups is sufficient for the moment. However I wish the ceo/board would just come out and say that rather than spinning a yarn about secret teams and it costing six figure sums to run one youth team. I don’t believe a word of it but I can see why they are reluctant to be seen as closing the academy after the same people criticised the last board for doing similar.

Couldn't find his arse with both hands never mind a football player. The way he went on to publicly speak about Dowds was shameful and as much as you kinda hope the new broom might convince Dowds to stay, shelling the kitchen sink to bring in Griffiths probably didn't impress him much either, when Dowds himself could see the lack of a midfield was his problem, and would be for Griffiths too (among other things). Absolutely do not blame him for leaving and can only hope that anyone we sign from now on is treated with respect and this sort of shit is in the past. If you don’t mind me asking what did Holt say and had the board treated Dowds badly too?

Holt and Sheerin were completely dismissive of him, and told him he was 5th choice behind our four star strikers, so he would be best going out on loan as he wasn’t of a calibre to oust any of Keena, Ruth, Ompreon and the other one.
