He's like some supercillious English missionary despairing at the recalcitrance of a tribe of rabid Jocks who have told him to stick his scriptures up his arse. I genuinely believe Doncaster and Regan would have no problems with, for example, including a "no relegation" clause for the Old Firm. Or perhaps more accurately a "no Bottom 6 clause". In fact, franchising a la Rugby League Super League would be their ideal model. Almost like the Eurovision Song Contest, where the UK get to play every year, regardless of how pish we are, because we have a lot of financial clout. the no mark countries compete to sing alongside us. It's really the problem with hiring non-football men to administrate. Their job relies on purely income and expenditure. It's why they just don't get the whole sporting integrity bit. We've been like this at every major decision point - and so far it's still going (slowly) in the right direction! I firmly believe that the SPL will defer the vote - and SFL will just wholly abstain from any action next week! If the SPL defer the vote then the SFL have nothing, absolutely nothing, to vote on. There will be no vacancy. There will have been no membership application. Doncaster's problem is that he genuinely believes that his job is to maximise revenues for the SPL member clubs in the immediate short term, and to be fair to him, in any other type of business it would be. That being the case however he really has no place getting involved in this issue which is about fairness, sporting competition and the long term health of Scottish football. Rangers as a club are dead, this is a new team which can barely put 11 players on the park at the minute, have no idea who owns the stadium which ultimately will be key, has a support which is considering boycotting the owner - all with less than a few weeks till the season starts. A crucial point Doncaster et al seem to be missing is that all this money/sponsorship was based on two clubs running away with it every year beating the cannon fodder along the way. Rangers cannot spend outwith their means anymore - we have no idea under Charles Green how this new club will financially compete such is the uncertainty. In addition, all this talk of financial meltdown with the newco in div 3. The old club that owes Hearts £800k alone. The same club that was happy to walk away with its ugly sister and not give two hoots about the rest of Scottish Football to move to England or some Atlantic League utopia. This whole conversation between the SPL, SFL and SFA is about evolution not revoltion. Other clubs continually evolving to suit the needs of the big 2 - the ONLY thing that matters in Scottish football. No clarity, no leadership and indecision is making this situation worse - every day that goes by without this being resolved is hampering the games ability to deal with this situation and prepare for the season ahead. My own team being pushed out of the SFL was a sad sad day but do you know what - good honest folk wouldn't let their club die. We might not be giants even in the small world of Scottish football but we have done things the right way, spent what we can afford and constitutionally every person has the same vote regarless of the money the put in the trust. Rangers would do Scottish football a lot more good if it was bought over by good football people with the clubs interest at hearts. Start from the bottom, gain support and work their way back up. It would encourage stable growth and, given the vast number of fans they have, would spread wealth across the sfl as they made their way back up. That's an external factor you have no control over. What would have happened had Sky not bid for the TV rights - would Motherwell have died? I find it hard to believe five - or six, or any - SPL teams are genuinely run like this. It's a shambles if they are. Correct. And wages inflation causes this too. Indeed, in some ways the Sky TV deal, as the Setanta one before it, is a millstone around clubs' necks. I've said this before, but when Falkirk went from Div One to the SPL, our wage bill trebled in the space of 3 seasons. Did our playing squad improve in terms of quality? Pfft - barely, if at all. But suddenly we had a £3m wage bill, rather than £1.2 m one. And dross like Tam Scobbie earned £2K a week, rather than £500 a week. All because we had greater income, particularly TV money. I actually think the Scottish game would benefit from not having a TV deal. It would force clubs to have outgoings purely in line with their own income they themsevles have earned directly. George Adams was in the paper - the Retard, as it happens - speaking pertinent and no doubt deliberately timed words about precisely this. I have to say, despite the number of County fans crying for more signings, it's precisely what I wanted to hear. Good, I'd rather it was like that, because quite simply even they wouldn't have handled the situation anywhere near as badly as the farce that is the SPL. I don't even think they would let themselves be dictated by TV money or one club that is bigger than the league either, and lets not forget hiring farcical chairman in charge. As always, it's about the big carrot being dangled in front of these donkeys faces rather than look past it at the fields of carrots itself. It's hard to actually have any motivation to keep interest with Scottish football as it's just went on for too long.
