What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

I'm not a baseball fan at all but had heard of the story.

Really good sports films are good, anyone recommend any others?

Best Shot (Hoosiers) from the 80's about college basketball starring Gene Hackman. Really good sports films are rare as hell but Moneyball was fantastic.

EDIT: Oh forgot The Colour Of Money which I suppose qualifies.

Aye Prometheus is a piece of shit, its so littered with plot holes, continuity errors, tired cliche's & unanswered questions its hilarious. Visually it looks brilliant but the story itself is utterly shambolic.

Skyfall - 8/10. The only Bond movie I think I really liked, im not a huge fan of the franchise although Casino Royale was not bad. Javier Bardem was amazing.

So glad i went to see it, its the only bond ive went to see at the cinema and it was definetly a cracking choice.

Im quite fond of the 3 Daniel Craig Bond films, think they have all been good, tho QOS was definetly the weakest of the 3

I thought Prometheus was okay when I first watched it but it's fucking awful. It's so utterly dumb its ridiculous.

I was similar. I came out of Prometheus thinking it was quite good but nothing special. Then I watched a review which listed the numerous problems and plot-holes that I'd overlooked in it and frankly it's embarrassing just how many stupid elements are in this film. The one that did actually bother me when I first watched it though was the guy who takes his helmet off after having been on an alien planet for a few hours tops because his computer tells him it's probably safe. It's jaw droppingly stupid.

I think that the fact that the film is pretty stunning to look at dazzles a lot of people on first viewing. However once you've had a bit of time to think things over and discuss it or listen to other opinions about it, you realise just how flawed narrative-wise it is.

We Need To Talk About Kevin - I just finished reading the book and decided to watch the movie straight away, which was probably a mistake.I would have enjoyed it as a film in its own right if I hadn't already read the novel but, having done so, I became grossly aware of things which were missing from the movie and I can't say that I was very impressed.

As a chilling horror movie, it is far better than the average. However, as a meditation on the battle between 'nature and nurture' in relation to the development of a human being, it was sadly lacking. The book was fantastic, taking you right inside the mind of Eva. This allowed you to sympathise with her struggles before slowly realising that she may also be somewhat at fault for the way her son turned out. It is a highly complex story which just didn't work on the screen. The performances were all good, particularly Ezra Miller who also impressed me in Perks of Being a Wallflower. My main criticism has to be with the screenplay. It cut out a lot of important dialogue which would have added more depth to the story, and it didn't develop many of the character aspects at all, leaving the actors to do their best with an extremely vacuous and empty script. The film, unlike my usual criticism, could have actually benefited from an extra 20 or so minutes. Alternatively, it could have cut out a lot of the numerous flash-backs which became irritating after a while. I don't know. I would have given it a better score if I hadn't read the book. Having done that, I can see that it failed to make the most of the text it was based upon and felt quite empty, for lack of a better word. 6.5/10

Source Code - 8/10. 2nd time seeing this and I quite like this film. Decent idea and a fine performance from Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga.

Iron Man 3 ( 2013 )

Highly enjoyable stuff. Certainly better than the previous outing. A bit predictable at times thanks to some signposting, but forgivable stuff really. Stark was turned back into a more likeable character even with his blatant cheek and most of the action was spectacular, and well worth watching. Ben Kingsley was the standout of the movie cast wise, but Cheadle, Downey Jr. and Pearce were all not far behind. Cheadle especially was just brilliant.

So yeah, this is a good blockbuster.

8/10

21 and Over wasn't as terrible as I thought it was going to be. 6/10. Would recommend for a couple of laughs for some brainless comedy.

It also had some Frightened Rabbit in it. Extra point for that.

The Dammed United - 10/10

A great movie and a real insight to the relationship between clough and taylor. Quite funny at points as well. I had never seen it before and it really is a great movie.

Any given Sunday

Remember the titans

The mighty ducks ( childhood favourite )

Major league

Lords of dogtown

Any given Sunday and remember the titans are the obvious choice but I highly recommend giving lords of dogtown a watch, based on a true story..... Very decent watch.

Just watched an Argentinian film, the Secrets in their Eyes. 9/10 ... fantastic movie which won an oscar.

I won't go into the plot as it's quite complex (it's a thriller, murder mystery, revenge etc type film).

But even if you don't watch it, check out this scene of a football match where they're trying to catch the murderer - it's one continuation shot from start to end (supposedly). There's no subtitles but you don't really need them.

Watched The Sessions last night, based on the true story of a man - Mark O'Brien - suffering from polio who requires an Iron Lung who and is disabled from the neck down, in his mid-thirties, decides he wants to lose his virginity. It's a brilliantly written film and has three exceptional performances from John Hawkes who plays polio stricken Marc, William H. Macy as his understanding Priest / friend and Helen Hunt as the Sex Surrogate who helps him. Would thoroughly recommend, John Hawkes performance in particular is brilliant. You also get to see Helen Hunt's tits and bush!

9/10

Edited to alter the ludicrously small font.
