Like most couches, ours has a voracious appetite for ballpoint pens, loose change, paper tissues and whatnot. Every now and then it eats something we care about and then I have to go all niche porn on it by sticking my arm down into the depths in order to retrieve whatever it is. It's kind of a pain because while it's easy enough to slide an empty hand in and out, once I'm holding something it's damn near impossible. I end up having to do the thing where I hold the object between the very tips of my fingers and hope that's enough of a grip to slide back out again.

Mrs. Shotgun has recently got into the habit of losing her mobile phone down the side, which is especially annoying because it's as slippery as f**k and usually takes several attempts before I can fish the damn thing out. It happened again today, and I was giving it my best James Herriot when I found, not just her phone, 2 pens, 45 cents, several peanuts and an un-opened Christmas card but also...the Swiss Army Knife which Santa brought me but I'd lost before new year. Hunted high and low for the b*****d thing, so I did but never thought to check the couch.

Other than there being no Terry's Chocolate Orange for breakfast; it's like Christmas day all over again. I'm well chuffed.

I'm not even going to start looking for Maddy McCann until I've been given several million dollars of taxpayer's money. And I haven't seen ol' Lucky for weeks now.
