The car is at the garage today, they may need smash the front grill to get it open.

It's a 19 plate Kia, it shouldn't have snapped on such a young car imo. However I seem to have a Midas touch with cars.

Not being a dick but a 19 plate car isn't new.

You are being a dick since the post you quoted didn't say it was a new car.

A 19 reg car isn't a "young car" either.

Less than 5 years old is fairly young. Especially given the way second hand car prices have gone since 2021.

There should just be an AI 🤖 response when someone asks a question in here - ‘roll all windows down; turn heater up full. You’re welcome!’

That is exactly what you're being. Seems everyone on here bar you understands the poster.

Maybe. But 5 years old is when you should be expecting issues, especially depending on how it's been used.

If the bonnet cable has barely been used over 5 years then it's not a shock things are seizing and braking. She shouldn't be beating herself for up for bad luck over it.

Sorry my thinking with it being 5 yes was would it be covered by their 7 year warranty?

Current garage can't find a way to release it either, they're having a panel beater look at it tomorrow to see if they can work out where the cable is.

I wasnt expecting it to come through MoT and Service without issue!

My bad luck was in relation to my luck with cars in general 😂

I have a car in my garage from 1992 and the bonnet release works fine.  I guess most people who would think about age as a factor in the bonnet release not working wouldn't be guessing that it would be as little as 5 years.

The 7 year warranty is very close to false advertising. After the first year they start removing items from it and by year 6/7 there's almost nothing covered.

I don't know the exact year it happened, but parts used turned to dogshit at some point in the last decade.

My boss has a Mk1 Escort that doesn't get touched for most of a year yet everything still moves and worms perfectly when it does. Any modern car can have parts unused for 2 weeks and be fucked.

Bonnet release depends on their use. Too little use and they just seize. It's an issue with Arnold Clark vehicles especially as they never actually open them.

Could be worse, it could have been an early Clio. Once saw a young girl driving one on a hillside road when the catch gave way and the bonnet smashed her windscreen. She was very lucky to stop without a big accident.

Grill going to need smashed up to get in. When they took bottom cover off but plastic fell out. The grill is cracked already so mechanic thinks cars been hit but won't know more until gets in.

May seem a bit strange, but if you have a local, in-person insurance agent, worth asking him/her where they source their collision replacements. Most insurance companies use “good used” parts whenever possible, and finding a salvage yard that can produce parts that haven’t already been damaged (tabs snapped off, etc) is useful, and much cheaper than new from Kia.

I’m not sure about the parts, but insurance salesmen with shopfronts (usually they’re representing one of the big boys like State Farm) is predominantly how it works over here. There’s no equivalent of comparethemarket or price comparison sites; when you hack in your details to get a quote all that does is give your details to a load of insurance offices who then phone you incessantly. I changed my insurance recently; managed to do it all by phone but it was by calling a named agent’s physical shop somewhere in the south burbs rather than a centralised call center.

ETA - thank you for coming to my deeply uninteresting TED talk.
