Jason King
FAI concludes accident was because of failures made by the Pilot. “Contents of the supply tanks depleted due to failure of Captain Traill to ensure at least one of the helicopter’s fuel transfer pump switches was set to on”

Busta Nut
I don't really know anything about this but I can't help but think they are just blaming the dead guy cos they can.

There's probably something the pilot could have done in retrospect in nearly every accident to make things better, which the manufacturers always concentrate on to avoid blame. Haven't read the report and probably wouldn't understand it if I did, but I bet there's a lot more in it than pilot error. Journalists just look for a simple headline, no doubt assisted by PR releases from Airbus Helicopters to avoid reading the whole thing.
peasy23
I do find it strange that in supposedly technologically advanced times it still relies on a human to flick a switch to transfer the fuel from one tank to another, I would have thought it would have been done automatically long ago.

I can understand that the pilot has to be able to override automatic systems on occasion, but you'd think he'd at least get a flashing warning saying "ARE YOU ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU WANT TO CUT OFF ALL FUEL TO THE ENGINES?!?"

philpy
I didn't speak to him about the accident, was speaking to him about music as we were watching a band play before we headed to a gig. I didn't realise he was the bar manager until I saw him being interviewed on the telly during the week.
