Basil has a cracking "Did ye, aye?" face. Looking forward to this.

🤣🤣

Mate am absolutely buzzing to get him, as i said he has issues, new environments and sounds frighten him etc at first so we'll need to take our time with him, we're lucky where we stay is quite quiet for walks and stuff,

But i know that when he's settled he'll start to take the piss out of us no doubt, and that i cannot wait for lol

I usually send back “Did ye aye?” or “You wot mate?” accompanied by this pic when my missus texts me some inane drivel.

Percy (Rei Doms Persie) 21st July 2011 to 28th July 2023

Our older greyhound was getting slower & slower due to his arthiritis and just general old age. A couple of weeks ago, however, he gradually developed a nasty cough then started having difficulty breathing.

We took him to the vets on Monday. An x-ray appeared to show that a huge tumour had developed in his chest cavity, which was probably pressing on his lungs & heart. His heart was also significantly enlarged. In addition, the vet said that he probably wouldn't survive the anaesthetic if she put him under to investigate further.

She prescribed various drugs that she hoped might make him comfortable and prolong his life for a while, but he just got progressively worse over the course of this week. Obviously, we felt that we had to spare him any further suffering.

Run free, big boy

What a handsome big guy. It's horrible when they get to that sort of age and start to suffer from health issues because you know its going to take more of a toll on them.

You've done the selfless thing in sparing him any further suffering and that's the kindest thing you can do as an owner.

Everyone, meet Basil

We're picking him up on thursday and giving him his first proper home, he has some issues as he's only about 2 at the most but never really had the socialising that puppies do early doors, and been in kennels for more than half his life,

But we met him today and he took to me and the missus right away, was comfortable with us and getting attention off us, so thats it confirmed he's ours

I fucking cannot wait, id have taken him today but we have nothing for him and the SSPCA always say about a second visit so you can have time to think it over (we dont need any, the missus loves him as well already, he was so good with us today given we were total strangers)

Awesome, he looks full of character!

Have done it twice @lichtgilphead , I feel your pain. A whole other debate but I took some solace from the fact that they were not forced to soldier on in discomfort until ‘natural causes’. You’ve done the right thing, as heartbreaking as I am sure it is.

Thanks for the sympathetic words. Percy was the 5th sighthound (4 greyhounds and a whippet) that we've lost in the last 12 years, and it doesn't get any easier.

We went down to Strathclyde Park this afternoon for the West Scotland Greyhound Trust walk. Janice suggested that Cody, Skye & Shane would all make good companions for Eddie, our current remaining greyhound. We walked all three of them, and whilst either of the boys would have been good, Mrs Gilp fell in love with Skye, a 4yo bitch.

We will be picking her up in a fortnight

Thats us got Basil home now, he definitely hasnt seen much if anything, when we put the tv on he literally just stared at someone talking on the news (they must have been talking bollocks cause he got bored after 10 seconds)

And the washing machine beeping when done set him off on a mad one for a few seconds, but other than that he's been great so far, he's happily going about the house and coming over to us and playing with us etc

I'll try get pics up later on when he sits down for a minute 🤣🤣🤣
