I'm old enough to remember when we didn't have shirt sponsors.

And played in white shorts...

And regularly finished in the bottom half of the table. Oh, wait...

You were doing so well up until that last sentence.

Really disappointed that Andy is leaving at the end of this season. Like others, on the face of it the contract offered to him was pretty damn good, particularly with the coaching pathway. I’m surprised that if there was an agreement for a joint statement tomorrow that Andy has leaked the info, and can’t see what benefit to him leaking it would do. I’m not sure, but if he had got a two year deal bringing him up to 20 years with the club, would that have triggered a second testimonial? Hopefully, we will see him in the first team before the season is out, and personally I’d have him in at left back on Saturday to let Jonny Hayes move up the pitch.

Controlled the narrative.

Some fans were slating the club on their tweet announcing what had happened. This was without them bothering to click on the link and read he explanation.

Jesus, it’s not great is it

Agents are utter c***s aren’t they?

They are, but Goodwin will have dealt with agents before and should understand that they’ll start high.

In any case, Consi’s career with us shouldn’t be ending with his contract offer plastered all over the website. If Goodwin wanted to clamp down on leaks, he could’ve done so privately and without taking the gloss off what should be a period of tribute to a fantastic servant.

I think it’s probs a bit dickish revealing that it was a six figure sum to try and get the fans onside but I suppose at same time it’s better that than leaking it to a journalist.

Yeah I thought there’s no need for that tbh.

Not a good look for any party here.

Andy Considine is 35 years old and he's been with Aberdeen his entire career.  Why the f**k does he need an agent to negotiate a contract at this point of his career?

If he's staying with Aberdeen, he'll know what he's looking for in terms of salary and length of deal.  If he's leaving Aberdeen, he's got a career that speaks for itself and enough contacts within the game that he'd get fixed up no problem.

Fucking think for yourself, man!

Eh? They had agreed a deal almost two months ago. Then they asked for more.

The club then agreed a joint statement for Thursday and Considine's camp leaked it early.

Goodwin has done nothing wrong here.

Unless the Club were just expected to sit back and take criticism, and allow the (unfavourable) narrative leaked by Considine's camp yesterday to embed itself, they needed to come out and put their side forward today. Ultimately, people might disagree about the exact contents of the statement, but there would have been no need for them to say anything if Considine's camp had just done the sensible thing and played ball with the agreement for a joint statement later this week.

I'm finding it difficult to be too critical of the Club with this one, frankly.

Looks like Aberdeen offered him a deal on significantly reduced terms, Considine and his agent went in along similar lines to what he is presumably earning now but expected a deal to be reached and Aberdeen have just walked away entirely. Pretty shoddy way to treat a club legend on the face of it.

There are some weasel words in the Aberdeen statement

“On 10th February the Club offered Andy a new one-year contract, rewarding him with a six-figure guaranteed deal, and furthermore offered him the opportunity of a pathway into coaching with our Youth Academy, where the Club would continue to invest in his future including his coaching badges.

“Andy’s agent on 23rd March sent in a counter-offer which was over 50% more than our offer in guaranteed wages, and for a two-year contract.

A 1 -year deal and they don't say how much they were going to invest in his coaching badges. Also it seems like their offer was also pushing for Considine to retire at the end of the season, there would be no more playing contracts and he would become a youth coach.

they also make Considine sound greedy by asking for £50K more when it seems from their lanuage of guaranteed deal that a large portion of his contract was going to be on an appearances basis. It doesn't say that he asked for more money overall, just a better basic wage which would make no difference to Aberdeen if he was playing most weeks.

Why sign up when it is clear Goodwin doesn't want him to play. They made him a shite offer with bad conditions that would have made it easy for him to be put out to pasture.

Also the insinuation that Considine went behind their backs and leaked it.

"We were to meet again on Thursday to agree a joint statement on Andy moving on after a sterling career and service to Aberdeen. Unfortunately, this discussion was leaked, but not by the Club, and shouldn’t have been in the public domain until it was agreed by both parties. I would prefer to handle these sensitive discussions in-house and not have them played out in the media but feel it is important to now provide an insight into the situation."

So they hadn't agreed to release a joint anything. So why should Considine be forced to sit in silence until both parties agree. Aberdeen didn't make him a good enough offer, they don't get to control how that comes out too.

Would be ridiculous to offer a 35 year old the same terms as he got at 32 years old to be fair.

Whatever the ins and outs, that’s what agents do.

Going to be rivalling statement FC if we do this every time an agent comes the c**t.

Let it slide, Consi’s reputation remains intact, deal with the leaks separately and privately (next week when there’s no game) and then we’re not dealing with this pish three days before the biggest game of the season.

Lots of conclusions being jumped at there.

Do agree, but it's not really a ridiculous position for them to start the negotiations with, I assume they thought they'd settle somewhere in the middle. It does come across as a bit of a power move from Goodwin pulling the rug after one offer. Publicly revealing the 6 figure salary thing is pretty cheap especially when complaining about an agent doing something similar.
