Three players handing in a transfer request in the same week is pretty unprecedented. Ferguson probably copied and pasted his from last time. Maybe offered the template to Ramirez and Ramsay?

Which three players have handed in transfer requests in the same week?

If you have any doubt where the original leak came from then you only have to see the spin on things from the Record today. Three articles on how poorly Considine has been treated.

He's a 35 year old who's suffered a major injury and we have a new manager in place. Why should he be offered the same deal? Why should he have been offered two years?

There's not a chance he'd get the money he is looking for elsewhere in the Premier League so why should Aberdeen have to offer that?

Although there is this rumour as well..............

Yeah the "exclusive" they ran yesterday pointing out that Considine was asked to take a pay cut as if this was some amazing revelation that people wouldn't have worked out for themselves was the kind of thing you'd expect from political parties PR not football transfer news.

Exactly.  His "guaranteed" income would have worked out around £2K a week. We would all have assumed that Considine was on quite a bit more than that just now.  But there must be a serious risk that he won't be able to make much of a contribution as a first team player at this stage in his career.  In the circumstances a one year contract on £2K and a chance to move into coaching seems a very good offer.  Lots of players would like to stay in the game after retirement but don't get the chance.  It's not nothing.

I'm fine with Considine leaving as he was on the brink of overtaking Bobby Clark and joining Miller & McLeish in the Top 3 appearances.

With the best will in the world, Considine is nothing more than good pro who has eventually managed to attain a level of consistency as the years have passed by.

Although we haven't any proof from this season, we should be able to do better.

Having said all that, I would also have gave him a year's playing contract due to the hopelessness we've witnessed on various occasions from Bates & Gallagher this season.

If he wants to reject that year then fair enough, but it's disappointing in the manner he and his advisors have reacted to the offer. The club doesn't owe Andy Considine anything. He's made a good living from the club and his 'loyalty*' was rewarded with a testimonial. He now needs to move on and stop damaging his legacy amongst the fans. The respect he garnered from the fans was hard-earned but now he seems intent to losing that respect to quibble over a couple of grand.

*Loyalty to an extent although it was probably never tested with a better offer. I do remember there were rumours floating around that Oldco were interested at one point but that's certainly not a better offer crossing over to the dark side.

A lot of people assume clubs at this level can afford to be sentimental.

Very easy to "care" and end up with too much budget spent on too little. Considine is a 35yo CB who has never been a standout at this level in that position, or a 35yo LB who just lost his legs while never being a standout at this level. Would be foolish to tie yourself to him beyond a year as you're trying to grow and improve.

I agree that we shouldn’t break the bank for Considine but he’s been one of the best centre backs in the league for most of the last decade. He performed consistently well at the top end of the league for several seasons on end. He also won player of the year in probably the best Aberdeen team of the last 25 years whilst playing at left back.

Whilst it’s unclear how much his injury has affected him, it would’ve been valuable to have a model pro with his league, cup, European and international experience in the squad and working with the young players. That said, the club did offer him a pretty good deal.

🤣

'mon now. He played left back for most of it.

Thankfully it's been announced the Devlin fiasco will finally be brought to an end.

That'll destroy the folk that were spouting "we're chucking Andy Considine out the door as we're about to offer Devlin a 2 year deal."

The devlin saga has been very sad. None of this is his fault but we really should’ve let him go a long time ago.

Yes he should never had been given a new contract last summer.

Hearing we are interested in Oisin McEntee from Newcastle as Devlin's replacement. He's currently on loan at Morton which should lead to a meltdown of "is this the best we can attract" when clearly he would be back up to Bates and Gallagher.

The surgeon we arranged for him fucked it up apparently so I imagine we felt obliged to give him every chance possible

You should be asking if Bates and Gallagher are the best you can attract.

21 yo, international at all age groups, surely been training with quality players at Newcastle?

McEntee is our best centre back by a distance and should have a big future.

Already good enough for a bottom six top flight side? Probably. He's certainly a better player than some of the centre backs up there anyway.

Already good enough for a side presumably aiming to compete for third and comfortably make the top six next season though? I don't think so.

An absolutely massive upgrade on David Bates? Definitely.
